rjones,

Am in Dunkeld on the first leg of my in which I hope to explore parts of South Australia that I've never been to. And visit some wineries along the way of course. And in the middle too!

Photo shows where one of tomorrow's Peaks And Trails 20km event mountains should be, if it wasn't for all the cloud... 😂

rjones,

Dunkeld put on glorious weather again for Peaks and Trails . Such a fun run with some challenging and exciting climbs and descents mixed with easy going trails for gentle in a lovely location.

The view from my accom at Cape Nelson, front and back. Majestic AF blinkyboi and spinnybois 🤩
And a visitor too (she had a little one in the pouch too ☺️)

rjones,

Lovely recovery run around the crater lakes at Mount Gambier, even with the peak being closed off

rjones,

Explored the Beachport Conservation Park a 22k sometimes wet (where the "trail" just leads off into the water), mostly sandy (not a fan of running in loose sand) trail that seemed more a wish than a track at times 😅

Saw some lovely sights, the weather was perfect, and it was very different to my usual trails.

continues!

A couple more photos from today's run

rjones,

Long drive today to get myself up to McLaren Vale. Roads were very quiet ☺️ and I got a surprise ferry trip too!
Did some recovery along the Shiraz Trail through the vineyards which was very relaxing. Followed by some recovery tasting of Shiraz - this is a after all🍷

rjones,

Day one of the interlude of my found me enlisted by the A/V team to help out with the streaming/recording! I've been involved in many Australian PyCons but never had the chance to volunteer with A/V before, so this was a long-standing wish fulfilled, and it was as fun and interesting as I expected it to be!

Took a full rest day from , back to it tomorrow though 🏃

rjones,

Torrens before day 2 this morning with a group of folks from the conference.

The flat course resulted in a run a touch off my 5k PB, mostly slowed down by the massive crowd starting off 🤩

Looking forward to getting back to the in a few days 😅

rjones,

Went on a loop around Adelaide through all the lovely parks around its perimeter. A very relaxed start to the week 😌

rjones,

Today's post was a 20k out and back along the coast near Victor Harbour going into the Newland Head Park. A lovely track, lots of variation and scenery 😊

rjones,

Today my found me in Naracoorte. Went on an awesome cave tour and did some around the caves park to see the above ground sights. Some really lovely, gentle singletrack which was what I needed after yesterday 😁

I followed what looked like event markers, probably from MegaFest last year, which will apparently be run again: https://www.adelaidetrailrunners.com.au/caverun

rjones,

My gets ever closer to its final destination as I find myself in Nhill, and do some in the Little Desert. Beautiful weather for a run and occasional pause in the scrub.

rjones,

Today I decided to stop over at a couple of places. Firstly a little in the at Horseshoe Bend in the Wimmera River at Dimboola. It was just me, all the birds and some roos ☺️

A small green-yellow bird in a tree.
A very small, round bird with blue highlights and tail, standing on a ground of twigs and leaves.
River bend surrounded by gum trees and some browning reeds.

rjones,

Next stop today was a spot of up and around Mount Arapiles.
The climb was fun, and the descent even more fun (more on that in the next post).
The view was cool too, over basically flat farm land as far as you can see, except for the Grampians in the distance. Which I'll be at tomorrow for Sunday's Wonderland run, the final stop in my

Me at the top of the mountain pointing at the range of the Grampians just visible on the horizon.
A clearer photo of the view from the summit of Mount Arapiles, with rock formations in the foreground and a rocky bluff in the near distance. Beyond that is flat farmland extending to the horizon.
Me standing in front of an abundance of yellow blooming wattle trees.

rjones,

As a friend commented, "when you're and have a GPS you can't ever be actually lost."
This bit was fun 😁

The side of a mountain with rocky cliff faces, trees both standing and fallen, and the absence of any obvious path down.

rjones,

ALSO there's this adorable little town called Natimuk that I happened to stop in for refreshments (very friendly milk bar proprietor) after the above run at Mt Arapiles and they have this amazing park with this sculpture and a pizza oven (with wood supply) 🤩
Big Lost Thing vibes from the sculpture.

Pizza oven with a pizza scoop leaning against it. Underneath is a cage which holds wood. In the background the sculpture from the previous photo is visible.

rjones,

Started my penultimate day with the in Horsham, which wins both my "flattest parkrun" and my "squeakiest bridge" prizes 😁

Lovely folks there (as I've found at all parkruns) and it was their 5th birthday too! Cake!!
