May the fourth... day of running be with you! Updated my #May50K run while wearing a Mandalorian T-Shirt (as you do), with added #Parkrun fun and thanks to sponsors. Why not join them and sponsor me TODAY?
Morning Andy! All off for #ParkRun this morning - everyone bleary eyed and grumpy. Youngest is giving it a go for the second time (first time she was not a fan) so planning on a jog, and I had surgery on my foot last week so will be walking. Trish will be like lightning as per, so there will be 3 of us at beginning middle and end! It's grey and rainy, but will hopefully will be a positive experience. Hurrah! How about you?
I did my fastest parkrun in many years yesterday. It has been hard to keep my progress slow and steady, instead of rushing in and overdoing it like I am inclined to do, but it's starting to pay off!
A month, maybe two, and I'll be back under 30 minutes again!
One of the stretch goals in 2024 is now accomplished! I got my latest PR in today's #Parkrun 5K: 21:38 at pace 6'57"/mile, thus reaching my goal of getting sub-7' pace!
Going in I was pessimistic because of the jet lag. Turns out running uphills with 1300ft elevation gains in #Sintra#Portugal paid off!
Last week's #Parkrun was in Norway, this week I'm in Norfolk. Or possibly Suffolk. The town of Harleston is in Norfolk, but Harleston Magpies hockey club, where the parkrun takes place is the other side of the river in Suffolk. Where it may be, it's a friendly little run, three twisty laps on the hockey club fields, then tea and coffee for a donation in the clubhouse after. My 228th Parkrun at my 52nd location. https://strava.app.link/w1QcrR64KIb
Today I did something unprecedented: I ran without music and notifications.
As soon as I finished my warm-up walk I realised that I forgot my earbuds at home 😱. It came to either delaying my run of 15-20' to walk back and take them or #running without them.
So I turned this catastrophe into an opportunity: listening to my breath and making no noise with my feet. As soon as it got noisier I would correct my stride and my pace.
Perhaps a bunny helped me today 🐇? After last Sunday's #marathon race PR, on my 50th #Parkrun 5K today I made my third PR this year: time was 22:33, pace 7’16”! This is 34 seconds faster than my last PR!
This completes my 2nd goal in 2024: earn 3 PRs in Parkrun!
Somehow this was my one hundredth #parkrun at Tooting. Beautiful weather, marginally smaller lakes/puddles than the last few weeks, and a (relatively) low turn out for the start of the Easter holidays.
A rear shot of me at Kedron #parkrun conducting the first timer's welcome briefing. Could have done with a first timers first timers briefing of my own as I forgot to show them the course map and lucky the writing on the card was in large type as I didnt have my glasses. Anyway it was my 13th vollie credit, 220th run and a time of 23:59, first sub 24 since Aug last year.
My first ever parkrun after finishing Couch 2 5K was sub 30, and here I am nearly 10 years later, trying to get back to what I once achieved so easily when I first started!
The combined joys of aging, HRT, injury and pneumonia :P
All that said, I've given myself a new goal! I'll get back under 30 again within 6 months! Hopefully sooner than that, but this gives me space for life to get in the way like it is want to do!
#ParkRun 51 done. Didn't have to take daughter to work this morning so Trish suggested we walk to/from the park. Lovely. But it's a 45 minute walk with a great big hill in the middle. Also found my DOMS was quite acute from Thursday nights Fartlek (teehee) training.
So although we've had a lovely and positive morning, struggled a bit with the actual run and had to stop a couple of times, which was a bit annoying. We've also done seventeen thousand steps before half 10 on a Saturday morning and I've promised little I'll go play tennis with her and am supposed to be doing the garden (CAN'T BE BOTHERED). So it's a very fitness-centric day.
Blah blah blah. Anyway - it's a beautiful morning. I've got a day of reconnecting with family and a party tonight with people who I quite like. Although there's always a quite eclectic mix of new people and last time I got stuck talking to a guy who was a bit of a nob - introduced himself as an 'angel investor' then insisted on showing me pictures of his pet squirrel and got upset when I pointed out squirrels aren't pets and what he'd actually done is kidnap a squirrel then started chanting "squirrel kidnapper" which I thought was extremely funny and he did not. But there's a few guys there who I love very dearly and haven't seen in a while, so even if the rest of the party is wall to wall nobs, I'll still be quite happy. Also there's karaoke which I've discovered is like catnip to me. No idea why. I can be quite shy and I can't sing. But for some reason I will wrestle a person to the ground to get the microphone off them so I can live out my dreams of being an international pop sensation. Go figure.
TLDR - happy weekend you beautiful bastards. I hope you're all better than marvellous. I bid you all the absolute best.
Hammer time. (sorry - I didn't know how to end this post)
Today was our 151st parkrun at Riemer park. I was tailwalker and I reached 2 milestones: 100 volunteering and 50 running/walking (since june 2019). This was my 132nd participation in a parkrun There were 66 participants including visitors from the UK and 5 very first timers.
Next week I will visit Westpark parkrun for their 200th parkrun!
