d93jno,

Anyone else having motivational problems to go out for a 2h long run after fall has come? Even worse, getting on the treadmill. I need to find my next goal!

@d93jno You next goal is to put your shoes on and go for a run. 🤣

d93jno,

@WTL That is true! I'm getting it done 😃 But it sure is harder and harder the worse the weather gets.

@d93jno Interesting. For me, I find the challenge of tough weather enjoyable. Weird, I guess. 🤷🏻

d93jno,

@WTL I can handle cold, rainy and windy not so much

@d93jno I’m still unsure which is worse for me; cold rain (4°C) or high heat with humidity (over 30°C). I think it’s the high heat because it is dangerous to run in, but it’s close. That said, most people think in any odd weather are bonkers. 🤣

@WTL @d93jno I actually enjoy the colder weather, even when it rains. I handle it way better than heat with humidity. I put on my running tights, rain jacket, cap and go. Afterwards I take a hot shower and make tea: perfect. What I don't like is excessive wind. That quickly gets annoying. Then again, I usually just roll with whatever's happening. 🙂

I'd say: don't think, just do. You'll feel great afterwards. Every single time.

@herrbischoff @d93jno Agreed. The hard part is putting the shoes on; once that's done the run happens and it will be fine. 🤣

@WTL @d93jno I prefer the heat TBH, easier to dress down and hydrate than try to thread the needle on layers. I’ve been pretty lucky in that almost all my outdoor runs were dry, and I have access to a decent treadmill for bad weather.

d93jno,

@RowinSpeez @WTL I do pretty ok in the heat as well. But as a true Swede, somewhere in the middle is preferred.

@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@d93jno @RowinSpeez I find it fascinating how we all prefer different conditions. I think I'm happiest around 5°C, and less happy the warmer it gets. Cold is fine; I can always put on a second pair of socks. 🤣

@WTL @d93jno
I don't mind the weather, there's a way to prepare for any of it.
What I dislike, though, is when the ground is "unrunnable", aka watered snow, snow with gravel/sand/salt, etc

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@fo @d93jno Watered snow - you mean like deep slush? That's no fun.

fo,
@fo@thecanadian.social avatar

@WTL @d93jno
Haha yeah, that's what I meant.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@fo @d93jno Deep slush with tiny bits of gravel in it that get into my shoes is always fun. I do recall once stopping mid-run, taking my shoe off to try and get the grit out while it was -10°C or so. 🤣

d93jno,

@WTL @fo Haha, yep been there. My favourite is hard-packed snow that had some sun, melted on top and then froze over again. i.e skating in running shoes
:D

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@d93jno @fo I'll take that over deep slush. Or 35°C+.

fo,
@fo@thecanadian.social avatar

@WTL @d93jno
Hahaha I don't know how to correctly classify those joys! 🤪
I'd say that dangerous terrain (aka ice) is the only thing that will prevent me to run.
But I know I would take 35°C+ over slush. That's easy.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@fo @d93jno I think last winter I ran in cleats once or twice after an ice storm, and it was weird. generally, I'll opt for colder conditions over warm. I'm clearly made for winter. 🤣

d93jno,

@fo @WTL It's just a bag of fun for us runners. That said, Icebug has some really decent running shoes that has some serious grip on ice.

fo,
@fo@thecanadian.social avatar

@d93jno @WTL
Interesting! I might also look for those things you put on over your usual shoes/boots... will see. Last winter was not so bad for running imo (in Montreal, I do t have an opinion for other places)

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@fo @d93jno I'm not a fan of them, for sure. They're hard to get on, hard to get off, you shouldn't wear them indoors … but they do work on sheet ice like after an ice storm when everything is covered in ice. Otherwise, I wore my Merrill shoes. 🤷🏻 Admittedly, in icy conditions, I do change how I run; more flat-footed to maximize contact surface.
