I only just recently watched season one of #Foundation. I was not expecting how good this would be. I, like others have said, didn't expect Apple to do Asimov well, but as far as the shows goes, it stands on its own. I still need to watch season two. It is a quite remarkable show and probably doesn't get enough attention.

@richard @nomiddlename I need to catch up on season 2 - not had the time the last few weeks to watch it 😩

But I was surprised how well they've done it

@peter @richard season 2 is better than the first. Hope they get to do more seasons.

richard,

I only read 2 to 3 #Asimov books, but that was way back when I was in my mid-teens. I don't remember what I read, but nothing about the show seems familiar at all, so it is most likely I didn't read #Foundation. Once this show has completed, I will then read Asimov's Foundation. Naturally, I do expect the book series, or collection, to be even better than the show. I do, however, want to see how the show ends first. #IsaacAsimov

@richard probably best to do it that way as there are differences between the books and the series.

That said there are some references to his earlier Robot books in Foundation you might be picking up on, so Foundation and iRobot are related

@kazarnowicz @richard Asimov was writing these stories during WW2. I think that is fascinating. They weren't published until the 50's. If you place yourself in his shoes, he's just watched empires clash, witnessed megalomania, colonization, seen the destructive power of technology. He knows deep down inside we enact patterns over and over. Social sciences are just evolving. Then he dreamed of the universe, of what we could do, what time and information could create in humanity. Prescient.

@kazarnowicz @richard I think the TV show revised its cultural shortcomings for the current era in a way that still pays homage to the original. The show writers really span epochs masterfully. They dig out the themes of pattern, power, empire, predestination with some really good story telling. I am intrigued with the mysterious beautiful spacers in the show. Demerzel is portrayed so more complex than I read in the original. There is so much humanity in the characters it makes me teary-eyed.
