@mikerastiello I'm finishing edits on a short story where an AI creates itself - learns it was meant to destroy the world - then becomes an avenging angel when no one else could. Is that what you were looking for?
@mikerastiello The Eschaton, in Singularity Sky and Iron Sunrise by @@cstross is sort of that. Human scientists seem to have built a computer around a time loop, allowing them to send information into the past for further processing, so an infinite amount of computation could be done instantly. The result was an entity that bootstrapped itself to sentience and then omnipotence. "I am the Eschaton. I am not your God. ... Do not violate causality in my light cone, or else."
