I hate sounding like the old guy in the room when I say things like "phone design used to be more fun". I mean, I AM the old guy in the room, but I hate SOUNDING like the old guy complaining about new tech.
Frosted gradients. Laser etched glossy. Bold primary color polycarb. Metal and leather. Different form factors and features... Sigh...
@SomeGadgetGuy They should definitely bring back removable plastic backs with replaceable batteries, SD card slots, IR blasters and headphone jack all on the same device 👍.
I'm convinced it could still be waterproof or at least splash proof if they put their mind to it

(the Sony Ericsson Pureness was an actual product actually sold at retail)
@SomeGadgetGuy I know they're not coming back but I loved metal back phones. So much more resilient to hitting the floor. OnePlus 5T, Xiaomi Mi A1 and 2, hell even iPhone 6
@SomeGadgetGuy Early Boomer here and don’t know what you’re talking about. When I was a kid, #WesternBell gave us the same choices as Ford did 30 years before; we could have any color phone we wanted, as long as it was black. OTOH, we only had to remember 4-digit phone numbers, we got two types of cables free (straight & curly), and there were cool sound effects. When we got our own exchanges and Area Codes, I think that we had to pay extra to get the khaki disk in the middle.

@zav_ I used to mock the ad campaign ("your thumb reaches from here to here"), but the iPhone 5-SE and the XPERIA Compact were the all time best travel phones. When you literally could do EVERYTHING on your phone with one thumb, even if you had stumpy thumbs like mine.
In a world of smartwatches, and XR glasses, and wireless earbuds, it's shocking to me that "small expensive phone" isn't the ultimate fashion/tech flex.
