@flamed it's so true — I love it when someone takes the time to send an email (even if it's a passive-aggressive one from HN, I'll still fix the typo even if I don't reply 😅).
The United States wants the world to choose: either they accept the dominance of Silicon Valley or fall into the hands of scary Chinese tech. But that choice makes no sense.
If we want better tech, it must be rejected in favor of another model that breaks up the monopolies and gives countries more power to shape their own technological futures.
@parismarx I disagree with the "countries" part of the argument since it still leaves people subject to whatever nationalist or "think of the children" whims can get through the legislature or be imposed on then by an autocrat. But 100%, freeing people from corporate domination is as essential to their having civil liberties within their governments.
@parismarx I read this as "gives countries to build own digital gulag with incompatible hardware, protocols, and software, where only one thing will be common - total censorship".
Lack of hardware, protocol and software compatibility is a way to learn the harsh way how digital state or corporate gulag works.
@cory INCREDIBLE piece. So good. I think it's the absolute best I've read on the subject. I especially like this part.
"The thing is: none of this is gone. Nothing about the web has changed that prevents us from going back. If anything, it's become a lot easier. We can return. Better, yet: we can restore the things we loved about the old web while incorporating the wonderful things that have emerged since, developing even better things as we go forward, and leaving behind some things from the early web days we all too often forget when we put on our rose-colored glasses."
Delicious in the dungeonone of us favorite anime of the year so faris based on an acclaimed manga created by Ryōko Kui in 2014, but as the mangaka says, the origins of the concept go back even further....

I don’t often share the fanblogs, but this is a good look behind the scenes: Elon Musk has been absent from Tesla for the past year, but now he’s reasserting himself by doing mass layoffs with little regard for the effects on the business. It’s a mess.

Premiering now! Had a great conversation with Shannon Morse about my issues reviewing some mini PCs that came pre-loaded with malware. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oH2R3o-EbTA
She offers some GREAT tips and tricks for folks interested in keeping their home networks secure and their data safe!
@SomeGadgetGuy Sometimes I wonder whether there are companies who pre-loaded their hardware with switches or similar solution instead of software/malware. I guess, in the future the trust in OEM, supply chain and retailer will play important role.
@sezduck I'm the weirdo who thinks these devices would be cool if they just ditched the garbage AI apps and put normal mobile phone functionality in them
I just want a cheap chonky bright orange plastic phone please spare me the silly AI crap
Cenforce 200 Mg works because of Sildenafil Citrate, its active ingredient. This makes it especially effective for men with persistent or persistently severe erectile dysfunction. However, individual responses to medications may vary and it is essential to consult with a doctor to choose the most effective treatment....
Elon Musk is betting Tesla’s future on using self-driving fantasies to boost the share price instead of building a real car business. He just gutted the teams working on the Supercharger network (right as other companies are adopting it!) and new vehicles.
@jakemiller “Musk told workers that Tesla ‘will continue to build out some new Supercharger locations, where critical, and finish those currently under construction.’”
In 2021, Elon Musk said the government should end all EV subsidies. Yet new data shows Tesla received more money from Biden’s grants to expand EV charging networks than anyone else — $17 million, or 13% of all EV charging awards.
