As far as I understand it, after getting burned last time, the journal Science is not taking any more chances and so this finding needs to undergo a much more thorough peer review process before it's considered legitimate. Considering it hasn't been debunked yet, and the authors are working on publishing related studies to ensure everyone who worked on it is credited, it looks pretty legit. But I'm not an expert on this process by any means.
