3D printer nightmare fuel: Bambu X1C and P1P started printing while owners were asleep
Bambu says it’s ‘keenly aware’ of and ‘deeply concerned’ by this behavior.

kn33, We have one of these at work but we leave the cloud connection off because we don’t trust it. Seems like we made the right choice.
andyburke, Why does a print queue need to live in the cloud instead of on your machine or on the printer itself?
knoland, Cause then you can charge a subscription fee for your cloud service.
cassetti, Totally not for spying on what people are printing......... ;-)
And I absolutely agree, for many reasons. I prefer my printers stay offline
kn33, The only legitimate reason I can think of is making it easier for the software/firmware developers. The types of nerd to be really into 3D printing would have a higher than average rate of also being the type of nerd to not have a flat network. Getting two devices on the same network to communicate reliably can have unexpected issues. Mix in routing and it gets harder.
In contrast, it’s really easy to tell the software to send the print job to a server and tell the printer to connect to a server to retrieve print jobs. It’s easier than establishing a reliable direct connection between the devices, ironically.
Now, is this a good enough reason to remove the option for local control? No. But they haven’t done that. The cloud component isn’t a requirement. Honestly, I can’t fault them too much for their overall architecture.
jeebus, Someone left a port open. Oopsey!
Transcendant, “Doesn’t look like anything to me…”
Flaky_Fish69, We should start sending it to these printers,
Avalanched, After hearing this I wish I hadn´t installed those silent stepper drivers.
Flaky_Fish69, For the record, you can just adjust voltage and trash your steppers.
