It's the return of , as the vile tries to either cow or just plain beat kids into submission.

She wants them afraid, alone and unable to confide in anyone. Most abuse happens at home.

@alexanderhay When I first read the headline I thought it was about the teacher’s gender…
Just as bad, but different…

@alexanderhay I imagine just like with most of this nation will look the other way for a quiet, Hetero life.

@alexanderhay

This is really appalling.

I'd agree it's an attempt to return for non binary and trans young people.

Warning, Badinoch's comments are wholly transphobic and if the govt enacts this plan, young people will be at significant risk

@alexanderhay It seems like they’re not even trying to make a reasoned argument for this.

Should a school be compelled to out a gay kid to their hyper-religious parents? No, of course not. The risk to the child’s safety is obvious.

Why then does a trans kid not warrant the protection that a gay kid would get? Why are they different? “Parents should know what’s going on at school” is no answer to that, because either it applies both to being gay and to being trans, or it applies to neither.

@hedders It also sets a disturbing precedent, and what's to stop it crossing over into other areas, based on whatever government is in charge?

For example, what if a kid's parents are racist, but they're friends with a black kid, or raging atheists, but their child is beginning to develop religious beliefs?

The possibility of abuse aside, this also raises the spectre of children being utterly cut off from the world, just to suit their parents' unhinged belief systems.

@alexanderhay The whole thing is a fundamentally terrible idea and I strongly suspect it has nothing to do with the wellbeing of children and everything to do with what they think will make Daily Mail readers happy/get them a few more votes from the reactionaries.

@alexanderhay Dunno if you're still following this story, but the Grauniad is reporting that the guidance has been "delayed" for a re-think following the outcry.

@alexanderhay they want trans children afraid.

let them never be allowed to not claim to be the nasty party ever again.

@alexanderhay It's horrendous. After all the time and effort that goes into ensuring that pupils feel safe at school and that they can trust and confide in their teachers, this is just a giant asterisk to that which says "unless you are trans, or think you might be".
