So "tweets" on X are probably going to be called X's (because of course they are).

Do you tell folks now to check out your latest X? Do you ask them to X you? Will you re-X interesting X's?

I'm so confused.

@EugeneTeplitsky

This is actually a thing people don't get. Names.

#Twitter had a good name, brand, and verbs. Tweets, tweeting, liking, and retweeting. Tweet, will tweetz tweeted.

Even with #Mastodon, the word "favourited" or "favorited"?? When writing code for the Mastodon APIs, these words are always spellchecked. I hate it.

Now #Twitter or #X just lost it. It is part of marketing and publicity.

People don't think about these things. They killed a good brand. Even Mastodon tried to get words like #toot #status and #post to stick. It is different in every single library and implementation.

@Stark9837 @EugeneTeplitsky And that, combined with "Dr. X" basically asking for legal trouble since Microsoft owns the "X" trademark for "on-line electronic bulletin boards for transmission of messages among computer users"...

If his goal is to piss off the entire world, I'd say mission accomplished!

All those words associated with Twitter that entered the Merriam-Webster dictionary...

17 years...

...and he threw it all away because of one letter.
