The first Bob Dylan tune I recall hearing as a nine year old and soon after, I heard “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.” I was hooked.

This evening’s “live” selection here on deck is one of my favorite Stones tunes from 1965. I won’t get to see ‘em on tour this year but grateful I’ve had the chance (October of ‘89) to have done so. Turns out Jagger likes the Stones. Go figure. 😎

PERREY-KINGSLEY
The In Sound From Way Out!
1966 Canada pressing

One that I’m always happy to put on; a really fun, and very influential record.
A spaced out pop album with unique compositions. It’s somewhat goofy and kitschy in some areas, but really light years ahead of it’s time.

30 years after its release, The Beastie Boys put out THEIR album of the same name, with a very similar album cover. A nice tip of the cap to a great record.

A Sunday morning jam with the coffee: one of those Beatles tunes John wrote and it was released as a single in early 1963 that in the years since, kinda disappeared from the “main stream.” Unless you’re a die-hard Beatles-type.

Written by one half of what would later become 10CC (Graham Gouldman) and the first Yardbirds single with Jeff Beck on lead guitar after Eric Clapton left the band. Kinda helped put JB on the musical map, certainly didn’t hurt The Yardbirds and sounds good out here on deck.

Wife and I were watching the Simpsons and Homer is singing Henry the VIII, I Am by Herman's Hermits and I laugh, and mention it's a real song (as there are just SO MANY hilarious and weird pop culture references in the Simpsons) and she wasn't aware (hell, there's a ton of weird old jokes that regularly go over BOTH of our heads on the Simpsons, and I really had no idea of the EXTENT of this until we did deep dives on all the episodes on a podcast we did last October - https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/podcast-of-horror).

Anyway, I mean, I'm 43, but she's younger (Herman's was before both of our time really, but I figured maybe she'd recognize another Herman's song from something- a commercial, or potentially another Simpsons episode)?

I play a little of There's a Kind of Hush, she doesn't recognize it. A little bit of I'm Into Something Good (https://youtu.be/n0J6q42zLH0) and she recognizes the hook. Was starting to think maybe I'd listened to too many old songs on the radio. 😂 I dig Herman's Hermits, though, and a lot of weird old 60s pop like that.
