A wonderful bit of Art Deco detailing above the door of the Beaux Arts style Refuge Assurance Building on Renfield Street in Glasgow. Designed by Stanley Birkett, it was built in the early 1930s.
I've visited and photographed Pollokshaws Burgh Hall several times, but today was the first time I noticed this fearsome little fellow tucked under the sill of one of the rear windows.
I love the details on this aedicule (or small shrine) at the top of Baltic Chambers on Wellington Street in Glasgow, especially the Solomonic or barley sugar columns and the putto (a chubby male child, often winged) tucked in below it.
Love this figurehead. It's one of four similar ones on corbels of James Burnet Senior's 1870 Union Bank building on Saint Vincent Street in Glasgow. I particularly like the foliate crown, which is reminiscent of a foliate Green Man.
Art Deco style sculpted panels by Archibald Dawson representing Industry, Prudence, Thrift, and Courage. They can be found on the facade of the 1927 Scottish Legal Life Assurance Society building on Bothwell Street in Glasgow.
Love this circular window (one of three in a row) on the side of the 1920s Waverley Cinema in the Shawlands area of Glasgow. Just a perfect little bit of design detail.
Neptune over the door of 177 Trongate in Glasgow. The building was designed by Frank Burnet and Boston and was built in 1925. The sculptor is unknown. I absolutely love the level of detail on this statue.
