Wow, it is 2024, and when you use the buggy "Apple Music.app" in macOS 14.5 "Sonoma" to copy music files to an iPhone, it shows a progress bar.

In the Finder.

IF the device window of that iPhone is open. In the Finder.

I mean, sure. This is the most obvious place, right? RIGHT?

Meanwhile, the buggy "Apple Music.app" shows a silly ugly little wedge only, which is impossible to read and has no context at all.

And that from a gigantic company that once dominated innovative and easy-to-user interfaces.

This? This is total crApp. Horrible user interface design.

Sigh.

The update to 14.5 "Sonoma" has been as unpleasant as expected.

After downloading many gigabytes, macOS got stuck for more than HALF AN HOUR, doing some undisclosed "Preparing".
This is just BS, I checked what happened, and a secret Apple tool named "UpdateBrainService" was slowly crunching away with a lousy 99% CPU. And that on one of the fastest Macs ever been built.

Really, , that is the best you can do?

And now, the Mac is crippled by dozens of "mdworker_shared" processes, because for EVERY SINGLE macOS update, as small as it is, Spotlight needs to reindex ALL DATA, slowing down macOS for many more hours.

Tim, you should be ashamed, really.

And now the real fun begins, because in the next days, we need to find out what NEW bugs Apple has added to macOS 14.5.

And yes, the ugly and buggy "System Settings" in 14.5 still crash and hang all the time.

, where are the bugfixes?
This is such a disturbing

Really, macOS 14 is such a

And yeah, it is the latest version 5.1 of "SF Symbols.app", and of course, this message lies, as the app is actually NOT damaged, and can be launched with the "open" contextual menu command.

This is such a bad joke, really...

cdfinder, to macos
@cdfinder@techhub.social avatar

And another in 14.4.1 that never bothered to fix.

Is 17.4.1 really 17.4.1? Or what?

This one is laughable, but it shows the complete lack of quality control from Apple these days.

And yes, that one has been around at least for three years, we had reported it, but hey.

cdfinder, to macos
@cdfinder@techhub.social avatar

It is only SEVEN years after we had reported this glaring and obvious bug in the ExFAT driver of macOS, and yes, it is still here today in 14.4.1

No, , that drive has NOT been created or updated in January 1970.

How I wish Apple would actually start fixing their bugs for once.

And yes, the ExFAT driver in macOS has a LOT more bugs.

cdfinder, to macos
@cdfinder@techhub.social avatar

Wow, it is 14.4.1 already, and we are still getting these stupid untitled and misleading "notifications" from the badly designed and completely undocumented "security" features in macOS when adding a launch item.

Oh .
We had reported this dangerous and stupid bug two years ago already, but of course Apple has ignored it, like thousands of other bugs.

macOS is such a horrible

WTF?

What are they doing?
This is so frustrating...

Seriously, Tim, if you are not interested in macOS anymore, place it in a new separate company that may actually work on it, and fix the bugs...

Oh yes, him, too!

In Germany, we have the saying "Der Fisch stinkt immer vom Kopf zuerst" and Tim Cook is the CEO and could easily change all of that, if he wanted.

Today I learned about the healing power of

[attributedString removeAttribute:@"NSOriginalFont" range:fullStringRange];

And I was wondering why the hell macOS was drawing my string in the totally wrong place.

What the hell are they doing these days?

Oh fun… another weird bug. When I resize my window, it clears the state of my modal window presented by said resized window. Sometimes I don’t even know where to start looking with these bc SwiftUI is just so black box.

Every. Fricken'. Time.

This is a huge improvement over the amazing, and incredibly helpful Notifications for that in 14.0!

Trying to copy some MIDI parts from one project in Logic to another. For some reason the exported MIDI part contains some additional info that messes up the instruments completely - I get the Massive instrument I want plus a Steinway grand piano at the same time. 🤬

So, figured I'd just open both projects at the same time and then hand paint the MIDI notes into a new track while looking at the old one. What a disaster! Logic becomes a bug riddled unworkable mess. 🤬🤬

Gosh, "Sonoma" is such a dud, should have waited at least another 8 to 10 months before releasing it.

What a slow nightmare:

What the heck does that even mean?

Where is the documentation for this dud?

cdfinder, to random
@cdfinder@techhub.social avatar

Frankly, the new "Wallpaper" "System Setting" in is the most confusing piece of horrible interface design I have ever seen.

And that is compared to the rest of the utterly confusing and ugly "System Settings" which is an entire textbook full of interface violations, inconsistencies, and how-not-to's in its own.

Sigh.

Oh dear , could you spare a few bucks to hire a human interface designer for once, maybe? Pretty please?

cdfinder,
@cdfinder@techhub.social avatar

@simonemargio

Well, you CAN increase the height of that messy "System Settings" window, but not the width.

Makes a lot of sense, since the vast majority of existing monitors on this planet are so much higher than wider.

Wait.

😂

cdfinder, to apple
@cdfinder@techhub.social avatar

is the we all feared it would be.

After installing the release version, I now get this refreshing nice display in the ugly "System Settings".

I have no idea what that means, or what is causing this, of course.

It has been busy for 30 Minutes now, I guess it is time for lunch for me.

Nice job, !

Yes, I only use this on a separate test but I am really appalled that is releasing this as the official version 14.0.

These yearly major macOS upgrades are definitely too much for Apple to handle...

Another day, another new crap "notarisation" bug.

I am so tired of this crap, really.

The quality of Apples inadequate developers tools is really a joke these days.

I wish we would simply use our time to develop insanely great software again, instead of fighting all the time with the massive amounts of Apple bugs.

lapcatsoftware, to random

The Ventura login items UI is still complete shit.

I don’t even know what the Jens Francke item is, and it doesn’t show the file path on hover!

[EDIT:] I think Jens Francke is from Cocoa Packet Analyzer.

cdfinder,
@cdfinder@techhub.social avatar

@lapcatsoftware

That is the name of the Apple Developer Account used to "notarrize" this software.

What a stupid idea of to use that instead of the bundle name or anything else. Noboday can possibly understand this.

Ridiculous, as that actually reduces security, instead of improving it.
