While Hiding From the Nazis in an Attic, a Jewish Man Created 95 Issues of a Satirical Magazine - Het Onderwater Cabaret
He often targeted Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels, writing in one poem, “If he writes straight, read it crooked. / If he writes crooked, read it straight.”
I just conducted an interesting writing experiment based on OULIPO. I took one of my poems and replaced all of the nouns with nouns pulled at random from The Books of Enoch (the closest book handy). Then I tinkered with it slightly, and what emerged is something far more interesting than my original poem. Give it a try! In the original exercise, “the writer takes a poem already in existence and substitutes each of the poem’s substantive nouns with the noun appearing seven nouns away in the dictionary. Care is taken to ensure that the substitution is not just a compound derivative of the original, or shares a similar root, but a wholly different word. Results can vary widely depending on the version of the dictionary one uses.” https://poets.org/text/brief-guide-oulipo#OULIPO#Poetry#PoetryCommunity#WritingCommunity#WritingPrompt#BooksOfEnoch#CutUp
