As I hike up Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver, I attempt to cultivate a peaceful, contemplative attitude. I’m aware of gratefully taking in oxygen from the surrounding trees with each in-breath. As I exhale, I gladly offer up CO2 to these magnificent trees with each out-breath. Oxygen in. CO2 out. Energy in. Energy out. #mindfulness#hiking#vancouver#deepecology
"Strangely, with the impacts of climate change increasing ecological crises, the acceptance of anthropogenic climate change is not an absolutely necessary component to the kind of general shift toward ecological politics based on people’s lived experiences. Indeed, climate skepticism that rejects anthropogenic forcing but accepts climate change may be the ace up the fascists’ proverbial sleeve."
"While social justice organizers like Judi Bari opposed the right-wing of [Earth First!] from within the movement, the radical left-wing author and activist Murray Bookchin promoted social ecology, directly opposing EF!'s anti-humanist "Deep Ecology" philosophy and rebuking the conservative "buckaroos" of EF!"
Each and every language is part of the heritage of humankind that should be treasured. This includes the indigenous languages of the Americas and the Third World, my own ancestral language #Cymraeg (#Welsh) and the other Celtic languages and so on. Each deserves respect and support.
@TimJonesStaffs When I was learning Welsh in the 90s, I was reading a lot around #DeepEcology, and the idea of species and eco systems having “intrinsic value” always struck me as usefully flexible.
