Okay, I need a 32" TV for my bedroom. #HDR is a MUST! anyone have any NON-#SAMSUNG suggestions? NO NEED for #DolbyVision. Prefer #LG, but just need #LCD/#OLED that can hang on wall. TV is ~10 ft from head of bed - if that makes a diff. Only using w/AppleTV 4k Gen2. No TV tuner requirement.

Suggestions? @joshua @tewha @lisamelton

My TV says the bitrate of a Netflix show in 4K Dolby Vision is 17.67 Mbps, and that stays constant.

That is a weirdly quasi-round number, it looks as it could be some simple fraction, but I am too lazy to figure it out now. It’s not 5/6*20, for instance, and I didn’t find any 1024 vs 1000 conversion either that would result un 17.67 me(ga|bi). Anyway, the question is, where does this number come from?

Okay. ONE improvement with the that you don’t get on other streaming OS’s. You can switch the video output to lock into 4K SDR rather than or +. The reason you would do this is because several series/shows, especially on AppleTV+ (the streaming content service, not the hardware) like Invasion, The Last Thing He Told Me and Foundation, are inexplicably dark as hell when viewed in DV. Viewing in SDR brightens the output considerably. Same with Terminal List. Incredibly dark.

I have no idea why these shows are mastered at such a woeful brightness level but at least the AppleTV has this “solution” for it.

And I hate that you have to turn off the main attracting factors of modern TVs (DoVi color breadth, audio etc) in order to compensate for quirks. Shit really should just be produced properly and WORK properly out of the box without having to fiddle the fuck out of config after config to just get nice audio and video. 🤬

Excited to see new “ Compatibility Mode” on the latest nightly build of for .

Disappointed to discover that even with this mode the damn thing won’t play DV files.

Despite the fact that KODi installed on my DOES play DV files on my TV.

Seriously, what’s the difference? TV’s OS is Android. FireStick is Android. Exact same build of KODi. One plays DV fine. One does not. Both should. The one that is not the TV plays it on the TV. The TV does not play it on the TV. But Plex on TV plays DV. Jellyfin as well. But not KODi. WHY.

After three days of intensive experimentation I’ve literally packed up my top of the line in its box and won’t be using it anymore. I read someone say that if you only ever buy one Apple product, let this be it. Nope. Completely the opposite experience. While there are some good aspects to it (responsiveness being one), the failures far outweigh the benefits. runs rings around it. I hate the remote - lack of buttons and the feel of it, although rechargeability is a big plus. I hate the fact that it doesn’t integrate or any live TV at all. Look at the screen pics from GTV. Can’t install . is Apple’s alternative but to play or any Dolby 5.1 audio at all costs a NINETY BUCK IAP. GTV even shows you what was recorded in my YTTV DVR. And the continue watching shows things from . NF doesn’t show up at all in the AppleTV interface. Epic fail and this time the fanboys have it dead wrong. Hundred bucks wasted but I’ll scalp it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I just cannot believe how cheap these streaming sticks are now! Two or three years ago I bought an #odroid n2 to play streamed content from my PC and also locally off a HD. Separately had to buy a FLIRC infrared dongle so I could control it with a separate Logitech harmony remote. N2’s don’t have built in wifi so had to get a USB 5G standalone rabbit ear adapter. And a separate HDMI cable. And MicroSD card to hold the device OS. And it doesn’t support Dolby Vision. And all up it cost me around $150.

#Woot are selling Amazon #FireStick 4K models right now for $17. With remote, hdmi cable, power and built in #DolbyVision, #HDR10 and 802.11ax Wi-Fi. SEVENTEEN DOLLARS FOR EVERYTHING. I just got back from a trip where I plugged the FS into the hotel TV and was instantly able to pick up where I left off on a couple of shows and stream all my bookmarked shit, no muss nor fuss. If I had Plex installled I’d be able to stream off my PC at home as well. Purely insane.
