🇨🇦 #BREAKING: Ontario may move to expropriate land before environmental review
"The move to explicitly allow expropriation of land before obtaining certain approvals is aimed at preventing potential court challenges from bogging down construction of flagship provincial projects like Highway 413, the Bradford Bypass, new transit lines — to enable what the doc says the govt is already doing, despite uncertainty about whether it’s legal
“Premier Doug Ford says the province will review and “re-evaluate” all lands in the Greenbelt — including those that are part of controversial land-swap deals that have engulfed the government and forced the resignations of a cabinet minister and his chief of staff.”
@Ulrich_the_Old@moormaan ... worth adding: in an election where polling places were cut by 75% in the province's biggest city*, and new provincial legislation muzzled opponents from placing the usual ads in run up to the election. #DougFordIsCorrupt#ONpoli#TOpoli
edit: see comment on this thread re: cutting of polling places (not done by Ford government)
But will anything change? Ford and his criminal compatriots are stealing from the people of Ontario. They are lying so boldly like a schoolyard bully. This must stop. We must stop them with the specific detailed power of the law and by our votes.
“The Ford government requesting an ethics investigation into their own political staff is like someone accused of robbing a bank demanding the police focus on their get-away driver. This is a strategic play in response to their Greenbelt corruption scandal. Don’t fall for it.”
“You can't make this up. A new subsidiary of Tacc Developments owned by the De Gasperis family who will profit to the tune of billions on the Greenbelt land grab is called Deco Homes.
More housing is no explanation for Ford’s attack on the Greenbelt: 🔥
“The Ford gov’t has identified a critical public policy issue – the need to build more housing – and then punted on it and used the ensuing chaos to attack the Greenbelt and serve the interests of a select few.”
“The government removed 3,000 hectares from Greenbelt protection under questionable circumstances in December; 92 per cent of this land was reclassified to the benefit of just three developers.”

“If Mr. Ford really cares so much about the housing crisis, he should be pushing aggressively to make sure that cities, especially Toronto and Mississauga, are rapidly increasing their rate of growth.”
“But Mr. Ford apparently prefers to turn wetlands into McMansions.”
