I love Gelders in #DwarfFortress because dwarves are named for their highest skill
So if a dwarf is addressed as a Gelder, that doesn't JUST mean he chops balls off animals. It means chopping balls off animals is his ART. It's his most finely honed craft. It is what he is known for.
Today on Dwarf Fortress: The World of Wonder, we await the triumphant return of our soldiers after demanding tribute from a nearby human settlement. Will we gain a new trading partner? We'll soon find out!
We completed the plug between cave layers and will soon make preparations to take over the first cave layer (FINALLY). It's risky but the reward will be worth it!
Today on Dwarf Fortress: The World of Wonder, we need to finish up plugging that opening between the top two cave layers before that wiggly worm beast gets wise to our presence.
I want to train our gem setting dwarves to get good, and I've set up a workflow involving clay statues and glass gems. That way I don't use up precious resources and save the good stuff for when they are proficient at it.
Dwarf Fortress report. I’m a new player; I started in November.
I’m in my second fortress ever. It’s year 58. I’ve survived attacks by a Forest Titan and a dragon (he melted my road and vaporized some dorfs!) The Homelands fell to darkness years ago; I’ve been training up a lone swordswoman to kill a pit fiend and free my people. She needs Legendary tactics which is hard to develop. Most of my warriors are legendary. #dwarffortress (1/2)
Today in Dwarf Fortress: The World of Wonder, the Ten Year Anniversary!
We're finally going to breach the cave layers after a nigh-invulnerable forgotten beast made of yellow diamond killed off all the others and stranded himself on a granite outcropping. First we must seal off the tubes joining the 1st and 2nd cave systems and then we fortify the outer edges of the map and claim the caves for ourselves!
In today's Dwarf Fortress: The World of Wonder, we somehow have TOO MANY METAL BARS.
Yes, the dwarves are still moving a bunch of bars from the furnaces over to the new stockpile, and needless to say it's taking a while. In the meantime we're still upgrading the nobility's housing before we move on to the next big project: temples and guildhalls.
Also, I decided we really need to update our wardrobe options.
In today's Dwarf Fortress: The World of Wonder, things quiet down!
After all that business with the King and the magma bath and the were-ferret we've settled into a new routine so I've decided to expand the magma forges while doing a bit of decorating and re-organizing.
It's taking a while because Dwarves are notorious for not liking to reorganize.
Today on Dwarf Fortress: The World of Wonder, we have a SURPRISE MOUNTAINHOME!
Yesterday the King arrived unannounced and brought with him 40 Barons.
This wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for the fact we were in the middle of drowning a forgotten beast in magma. Also, those Barons? One of them was a were ferret.
Today on Dwarf Fortress: The World of Wonder: That damned Forgotten Beast won't go away. In our "test simulations" we tried attacking it outright (no one laid a hand on it before getting decapitated by a "scratch") and entrapping it (it was too smart to go into the room we set up for it).
So, we're going to try something clever. We will dump magma on it somehow!
We're almost ready to pierce the first cave layer to set up a permanent settlement there for that precious, precious wood. The steel foundries are hungry.
But first I suspect we're going to be promoted to a duchy very soon. I need to prepare a noble's bedroom and living quarters to stave off the "fun" times.
We've started up our magma forges! Dwarves everywhere rejoice!
Now we have to build up our military. We have iron, iron everywhere but without coal or coke we can't turn it into steel. For now we rely on copper to protect our dwarves from injury. We must train them and prepare to invade the cave layers. From there we can gain access to giant fungi to replenish our wood supply without relying on external trade!
Today in Dwarf Fortress: The World of Wonder: We're in Year 4 and we're getting close to bringing magma closer to the surface. We just need about 70 or so magma pumps. No biggie.
We're getting more and more migrants now, and our population is now past 70 members. Sadly, we lost one (our chief medical dwarf) to a were-ferret. Once we get our magma industry going, we can get armor for our dwarves for next time.
Today on Dwarf Fortress: The World of Wonder - Year 1003. We're establishing a pretty decent fort but we're not attracting any migrants, leaving us to stagnate at 16 dwarves from our initial migration waves. We'll need to see if we can improve that situation and soon.
Also, we need metal, and for that we need fuel! Can we find coal or are we going to have to go straight to magma? Let's find out!
So guess who has two thumbs and forgot to hit "record" on the Dwarf Fortress stream yesterday?
It's do-over time! We'll pick up half-way through the year as our fort gets a foothold in an Elven region. Setting out in a mirthful rocky wasteland, can we fend off the Unicorns and two-humped camels long enough to establish a thriving fort?
