well that’s kinda embarrassing. after admiring all of the #globalTalk imagewriters I was sad that I didn’t have one to hook up to the LC
today I went into the archive to pull some Macintosh stuff out for repair, and there was a brand new IW2 sitting in an Apple // crate 😅
I’ve never used one of these in my life. It has a mini-DIN port on the back. any tips on finding the right cable? I noticed my localtalk cables don’t match the pin configuration.
update: sadly has no Apple/Localtalk option card installed. back to the Apple // heap ye go!
write and publish a blog post about how I got vMac speaking LocalTalk over UDP with the rest of my network with the help of a tashtalk Rpi shield, with an addendum about using Basilisk II as a self contained router (ie. just use Basilisk II to connect to #globaltalk
finally figure out how to bridge my LToUDP and Ethertalk networks so I can build a filesharing system with Netatalk
Getting things ready for #MARCHintosh printing. I knew, I knew there would be a legit reason to keep this beast all these years. And it still works. It gets on the network today (or it gets the hose)! #ImageWriters#GlobalTalk
Is anyone using AirTalks for their #MARCHintosh projects? I have some and will use them (need to get proper DIN cables) but I'm wondering if they are solving any issues for anyone right now?
@dillera I use my AirTalk to provide AppleTalk connectivity to my modern Mac using Mini VMac, which is my primary method for enjoying #GlobalTalk (browsing file shares, printing, etc). It hangs on my LocalTalk segment along with my ImageWriters.
You may have a bazillion followers/subscribers, but do you get STACKS of fan mail sent directly to your AppleTalk-enabled ImageWriter II dot matrix printer? 🥰
The GlobalTalk Chat Stack 0.2.0 is released! The preferred HyperCard-based multi-user chat system for the #MARCHintosh#GlobalTalk network.
I've added text escaping courtesy of @uliwitness so you can now type quotation marks without breaking it!
I've also made usernames bold in the chat log, and added a "emoji" feature where you can tack a single character from Susan Kare's classic Taliesin or Cairo fonts to a message.
For people with trouble mounting the “Router IP Extension” disk imagefor #MARCHintosh#GlobalTalk (that is supplied in a zip file for some unholy reason), here are some other uploads:
OK, file this under "Things I never thought I would be doing again..." but ah, for #marchintosh
The HyperCard 2.4.1 Installer image is monster 45 megs of crap you don't need. Extracted it all, moved across systems and took out just what is needed for install on a System 7.1 Mac, then created an new image and re-stuffed with 1.5.1 into a 32k kilobyte file. About to upload this to the Garden for others to enjoy.
The speed of development of this network is astounding. A few days ago we were discussing if HyperCard chat ever existed -- here we are chatting with one across continents!
#globalTalk if anyone wants to take over the globaltalk.network domain and use it for the network, i'm happy to switch it over to your nameserver! realized that i already have too many projects on the go :)
Given recent "characters" coming to light in the retro community recently, I want to make sure that the code of conduct for #MARCHintosh is being followed by #GlobalTalk participants. In addition, my feeling is we need some additional code to maintain a level of privacy for participants.
So for today’s silly #MARCHintosh madness, I’ve set up the ImageWriter on the #LiveLaughLocalTalk half of my #GlobalTalk Zone, with continuous-feed pay slip carbon copy paper put in upside-down.
admitting defeat after not being able to write the Apple Internet Router disks no matter what I try. DiskDup or DiskCopy just can't recognize them. I probably should try setting things up in an emulator then putting the image on my SE/30. #GlobalTalk
After a rocky start (it helps to put a ribbon in it 😂), here’s the #GlobalTalk mail from the ImageWriter LQ wideboi. Thanks @likesoldmacs@polpo@halkyardo
