Phone service pricing is so strange. Until today, Google Fi Simply Unlimited was:

• 1 line: $50
• 2: $80 ($40/ea)
• 3: $80 ($26.67/ea)
• 4: $80 ($20/ea)
• 5: $100 ($20/ea)
• 6: $120 ($20/ea)

Today they bumped it to:

• 1 line: $50
• 2: $80 ($40/ea)
• 3: $90 ($30/ea)
• 4: $100 ($25/ea)
• 5: $125 ($25/ea)
• 6: $150 ($25/ea)

…which is fine for me; $25/line is still pretty inexpensive for 4+ lines. But like… how do they come up with these numbers??

Ugh. I'm generally happy with roaming on , but its German MVNO partner is blocking port 995, so I can't access my mail server, and tech support is like, "If you want to report a mail problem, you must initiate a chat request from that email address." I'm stuck in circles - obviously I can't login to the Google Fi app with a non-Google address, and this isn't an email problem, it's a connectivity problem. ALL outbounds on 995 are blocked, not just to my server.

My Pixel 7A has now moved from @Efani to not because of any complaints with Efani, but Fi has international plans that are a lot better since I’m traveling back and forth to Europe and Morocco as well as Israel over next year for cybersecurity work and events. My iPhone will remain on Efani for security reasons as it is my most exposed number.

of course brought back their big discounts on the s23 line after I already bought a refurbished one.

Luckily amazon renewed has a 90 day refund window, no questions asked.

So the old refurb gets replaced with a brand new phone and I get $250 back.

Penny saved is a penny earned means I'm making bank today, right?

It's 2023 and Verizon still has the gall to charge $2.49/minute for an international call to Japan, unless you pay an extra $5/mo for one of their monthly international calling plans then it's only $0.07/minute I guess (they never tell you, it's a "starting from" rate)

It's times like this that I miss Google Fi and their no-nonsense (free) international plans that don't make you think about any of this.

I'm on a family plan now though and the switching cost has become REALLY high or I'd go back. But even then all the carriers prey on individual lines - the cost per line is stupid low in family plans which uuuugh this is all so stupid.

If you're using , make sure to check your email. Apparently they're opting you in to sharing your CPNI with other Alphabet affiliates, which "includes the destination, technical configuration, and location of your calls and information about the type and amount of services that you purchase and use." Opting out is just a click, but you have to do it within 30 days.

My updated 4.

Well it is not looking great for keeping Google Fi as our phone service. Speeds are great. Coverage is fairly good. Not as good as Cricket but ok.

The main issue is, my wife and I have had to restart our phones a few times each to regain service, on seperate times of the day in a one week period. The phone says no service, even though we do have service there. The problem is resolved as soon we restart our phones. Working with support.

Update No.3 on switch to

Switched the last two lines from and I will say that the process is more annoying vs Cricket. I had to spend about 10min in chat, per line. First with virtual chat, then a real person asking for my transfer pin. Vs Cricket I just got the pin off of my account dashboard. Second both times I had to justify why I was leaving Mint. Also something I didn't have to do with Cricket.

Once I got the pin, the transfer was quick and is now done.

Update on the switch to #googlefi

Transferred two numbers yesterday, from Cricket. The process was much easier and quicker then I thought. So that was great. Hoping to transfer the other two lines this evening, from Mint.

Did a speed test at a rural park near me and got speeds of 393.8Mbps⬇️ & 41.5Mbps⬆️

Looking to move the family over to #googlefi this weekend, probably mine today. Hoping to save some cash each month. We are currently on Cricket and Mint, looking to combine to one plan.

Does anyone have Google Fi on here? Anything I should know before making the switch over?
