I've enabled Authorized Fetch on DMV.Community so that anyone who blocks a domain at the user level will not have their content viewable from that domain. Essentially, it makes a user-level domain block work like a server-level defederation.

Administration > Server Settings > Discovery > Require authentication from federated servers.

@Aaron @cliffwade to Google's credit, they were trying to make a cross platform messaging solution but no one on iPhone wanted to use it because they're obsessed with iMessage. Should Google have pushed RCS sooner? Yes. Should Apple also have worked with the GSMA on rolling out RCS instead of creating another shitty proprietary "solution"? Yes.

The whole situation sucks and they're both to blame.

@Aaron @cliffwade Yeah Apple did the evil thing and locked people in. That tracks though. For a company that claims to care about their customer's security and experience, they didn't seem to give a single shit about the cross platform messaging experience for their customers. They had the power to do it and chose not to. A lot of the blame lays with them and I applaud Beeper for sticking it to them.

Tor was created by the US Navy, OpenBSD was funded by DARPA. Just because it received government funding doesn't mean it's not trustworthy.

@cliffwade @EighthLayer @aggiepm first it wasn't FULLY FUNDED by the government, there's no indication it was the CIA, and why wouldn't the government be interested in funding a virtually uncrackable encryption protocol. It's simply paranoid to believe they have some kind of backdoor.

2. They can't kill this place. They can come and go and it will still be here.
3. It's pretty clear their reasoning for jumping on ActivityPub is just to have a CYA for regulators.
