Was a GREAT C= club meeting last night at the Seattle Commodore Computer Club (SCCC) sea-ccc.org

  • 2 mega65's in-da-houz
  • C64 repair
  • A600 + rare working dyesub printer
  • Gorgeous C= MAX console (!!!)
  • BEST people on the planet
Even did a side-by-side comparison of Briley Witch 2 on Mega65 (PAL) vs C64 (NTSC). Very cool!

I brought my to Heidelberg to prepare an own implementation (as a kind of quintessence from my latest research). I will exhibit that at next year's in Munich.

I will leave the survey open until August 31st to make sure anyone who wants to take it gets the chance. https://tally.so/r/mDk4pZ

We're 97% to our response goal! That's plenty of data, but I can't post the "we did it" image until we get there. 😅

It is 3AM and I can’t sleep because my mind is gripped with an idea it can’t leave alone so I need to think out loud to make it go away.

Part of me is sick of the current state of computing and wants to go live under a rock but it has to be a rock with a minimal amount of computing power to do something practical and productive.

There are a number of single-board / nu-retro computers out there and I’m wondering what would be my ideal OS / environment for one of these

kroc, (edited )

The and are limited production runs AND expensive. The Commander X16 will also fall into this category when it arrrives. The is much of the same IIUC.

The is cheap, always available and does just enough to be useful and whilst there are other SBCs the in the Agon solves the problem of having 8-bit simplicity without a 64KB limit or painful memory banking. A native 24-bit address-space greatly simplifies OS/app development.

In-the-air Retr0britinng

Successful first test of a new variant of hydroxyperoxide (H2O2) Retr0briting that I have recently read about. Instead of submerging the object into a H202-water solution it is to be suspended it in the air above. All contained in a transparent storage box and set in the sun for two afternoons.

The idea is, that the process is more gentle because there is no direct contact to the water solvent but still oxydation from the enriched O2 atmoshpere as well as from UV-Light happens. In any case it worked great for this Commodore 1541.

The drive itself is functioning without problems after 40 years (built in 1983!). But I still have to clean its innards and upgrade it to 240 V from its original 220. Then it should be good for another 40 years, connected to the Mega65 pictured next to it.

Same setup as above, but in this image the Commodore 1541 Disk drive is considerably less brown-yellow

The is probably the closest anyone can get to owning a .
The original C65 prototype never had a badge, but imo this grey badge is probably the most timeline-correct.
@martin_piper correct me if I'm wrong.😉
I'm glad retrobadgeman.com made these.
