Quite apart from concerns about the costing & planning for 's rail proposals (intended to replace aspects of ), for those of us living in & the surrounding areas, once again the large urban area of Lancaster-Morecambe is right in the middle of a blank area....

There's a strange blindness about Lancaster; we have a top 10 University, a major new visitor economy development (Eden North) & a large population yet somehow are always missing from plans!

The rail announcements in come in three categories.

  1. Projects that were already built a decade ago.

  2. Projects that have been promised and cancelled for over a decade.

  3. Projects that were cancelled the day after they were announced.

Do not trust a word Tories say. The Ely North Junction rail improvements to enable more freight trains + increased capacity on Fen Line between Kings Lynn and Ely, to have half-hourly service throughout the day, was promised in 2012 and again 2014 Tweet from Liz Truss “Ely North junction to be upgraded. Prep work to start straight away. Building in Control Period 5 (2014-2019)”
Daniel Holland @danhollandnews BREAKING After just 24 hours, the government has dropped its commitment to reopen the Leamside Line. It was included yesterday in the initial Network North announcements, now it's gone. Roads minister Richard Holden tells me Govt is now just 'committed to looking into it'.
