I am absolutely DYING about Count Binface getting more than TWENTY FOUR THOUSAND votes in the London mayor election. I cannot stop laughing, it's cracking me up. So awesome.

With all the talk about how bad Google Search has been getting lately (and especially given the posts I’ve seen about how the ads team was putting pressure on the search team to somehow entice users to increase their search queries), I wonder how effective would be a protest against Google in the form of:

User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow: /

This is not a recommendation. It’s just a thought, for now.

@ramsey Would you trust them to honour it?

The best part about the London mayoral election? That the massively racist party (Britain First) are so unpopular that they were beaten by a man with a bin on his head (Count Binface).

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@pstewart @offby1 @andrew Yes, I'm sure @CountBinface could explain. (Yes, of course he's on Mastodon)

I would love to tell you that the game of chicken I played to maximise the length of my ride before this storm arrived ended well 😬

Instead I get to tell you that riding for 2km in hail is, well, enervating 🤪

The other 65km were just fine though & now it’s pissing it down outside 🤷‍♂️

Need private voice transcription? MacWhisper is an exceptionally good program to run Open AI Whisper locally on your Mac. Very good free tier and once off payment to upgrade. Handles academic jargon and legal terms better than any other service I’ve seen. No connection with the author other than being a satisfied customer. https://goodsnooze.gumroad.com/l/macwhisper

@tjmcintyre I did a similar thing on Linux without all the shiny: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FZonnnalfYc

Article version still in the pipeline. Annoyingly, it's not an ethical model that's being used.

You receive a call on your phone.
The caller says they're from your bank and they're calling about a suspected fraud.

"Oh yeah," you think. Obvious scam, right?

The caller says "I'll send you an in-app notification to prove I'm calling from your bank."

Your phone buzzes. You tap the notification This is what you see.

Still think it is a scam?

stzahi, to random

Hi
@derickr ,
The only way I found to use
@Xdebug
with Dockerized micro-services running concurrently AND using the same IDE is by running Xdebug on each of them in a separate port (and listening to multiple ports in the IDE).
It's messy and complicated to maintain.

Is there any better way? Can't find any reference to this in the docs.

Thanks! :)

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@stzahi @Xdebug does not listen on any port. It makes a connection to the IDE. You don't need to expose anything on containers for Xdebug. They just need to be able to make a connection to your IDE listening on a single port (9003 preferably, as that's the default).

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@stzahi @Xdebug If you're using PhpStorm, there is a setting for that: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/phpstorm/simultaneous-debugging-sessions.html#increase-the-number-of-simultaneous-debugger-connections

If you're using another IDE, then you need to tell me which one :-)

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@stzahi @Xdebug If it uses DAB, then the VS Code plugin for Xdebug should work. But I can't say I've even heard of Codium yet.

OK, UK types, it’s council elections day. When you go out to vote, remember that you need to take photo ID with you. Yes, it is bad that you have to do so because it harms people without IDs more than it helps stop basically-nonexistent “voting fraud”, and yes this is a flagrantly partisan measure to benefit the Tories, and yes it was put through Parliament with barely any discussion or opposition, but you still have to do it. Don’t take it out on polling station volunteers, either.

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@geospacedman @sil Yes, they must count it. But only if you talk to the actual poll workers. I had a "gate keeper" asking me first. That wouldn't have been counted.

What’s up with 19.2 fl oz beer cans? I mean, I like the size, but it’s not an even amount of anything. It equates to 567.81 ml.

Yes, I know American units are wonky, but sometimes they’re weird because they actually equal to an even metric number. For example, they sell 16.9 fl oz water bottles because that’s a half liter.

So, what gives on the 19.2 fl oz / 567.81 ml measurement for these tall cans?
