The hidden agenda behind the so-called Parents' Rights push
How parents' rights is a tool for Christian nationalism

You could say that the parents rights ideology has a preoccupation with the orgasmic pleasure of children. Heterosexuality is a hell of a drug.

Bill would require Utah teachers be politically ‘neutral’ in what they say and display in class

Nothing to do with the interests of children, and everything to do with the interests of parents.

Some thoughts on "parents rights" - and why Conservatives focus on them 🧵

I've read a lot of posts and articles about so-called .

They point out that politicians in use the phrase to:

  • diminish
  • cause or perpetuate harm to individuals
  • gain support from religious groups
  • copy tactics used in the USA
  • demonstrate
  • splinter LGBTQ solidarity
  • denigrate public education

All valid points - and maybe missing something?

CanadianCrone,

@myeyesaredim The Supreme Court of Canada says that the right to be a parent or the right to control your child isn’t in the Charter. The courts said the right of a parent to parent their child can be found in section 7, but it’s never absolute because at the same time, a child is a human being, not property, and every human being has human rights, civil rights and charter rights. Those rights exist independent of parents. But and the want real bad.

The Right Wing Anti-Trans Media's Obsession With Parents' Rights — Assigned (by @e_urq, 2022)

https://www.assignedmedia.org/breaking-news/https/wwwassignedmediaorg/breaking/assigned-parents-rights

"What’s really alarming about this parents' rights movement is that it seeks to decouple parental rights from ideas about a child’s best interests, arguing instead that whether or not vaccines are safe and effective, a parent’s right to have complete control in decision making should allow them to override their child’s best interest."

If you want to understand the parent's rights movement, you should read this ⬆️.

Abstract snippet:

"The analysis reveals how care, love and gratitude for the shared home are core elements used in heteroactivist negotiations, with contextually established notions of gender equality and sexual rights as national values. It also demonstrates how the home, which these actors seek to cherish and protect, takes shape as an exclusive and exclusionary space."

"Why won’t the U.S. ratify the U.N.’s child rights treaty?"

https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-partisan/wp/2014/11/21/why-wont-the-u-s-ratify-the-u-n-s-child-rights-treaty/

"The group fears that ratifying the treaty would mean children could choose their own religion, that children would have a legally enforceable right to leisure, that nations would have to spend more on children’s welfare than national defense, and that a child’s “right to be heard” could trigger a governmental review of any decision a parent made that a child didn’t like."

Imagine choosing your own religion!

WaPo screenshot 2: But is the U.S.’s non-ratification of the CRC hypocritical when the U.S. lectures other countries on children’s rights? Farris says that the “United States demonstrates its commitment to human rights whenever it follows and enforces the Constitution of the United States, which is the greatest human rights instrument in all history.” The currently all male-staff (Farris says the group has never focused on maternal leave as an issue) of ParentalRights.org and other opponents of the CRC overlook that protections for the rights of children are human rights. Protections of children with disabilities are protections for people with disabilities. Ending discrimination against children is ending discrimination against people. Ensuring paid parental leave, access to pre- and post-natal health care for women has been linked to better health outcomes for children and parents. The United States can learn from other member nations on how to reduce poverty, ensure women’s rights, improve education and educational access, and healthy living conditions, for starters. What message does the U.S. send to the rest of the world when we endorse and support young activists like Malala Yousafzai, and her platform for girls’ rights to education, when the U.S. refuses to ratify an international treaty that promotes access to education for children?

This is from 2014, but still. An all male group calling themselves ParentalRights.org is literally just a patriarchy. It's very obvious that this is about religious people believing they have a right to forcefully indoctrinate their children and control them. That is what means. It means the violation of .
