Holy banana bread. Just used #discord on mobile after months of not using it, and I’m just consistently amazed at how sluggish a chat app is. It’s even so sluggish that it slows down my actual iPhone and screen reader. How does a chat room application get to be so Bloated that it feels like there’s malware on my phone until I force quit the application. The website is just marginally better. Can we go back to #IRC or forums again please?
Also, PikaPods has been the best way for me to just try a bunch of open source apps! the only instance I kept is my audiobook server but take a look at the apps they offer. Like I said, their accessibility needs work but I wrote down what the important unlabeled buttons do. It's mainly 2 important unlabeled buttons, but still, so glad I found #PikaPodshttps://www.pikapods.com/@pixelate
Maybe something I can try for the purpose of learning #Rust is setting up a real-time communication channel in #NodeBB (i.e. a socket that the web UI could use to show real-time information, typing indicators, etc). Maybe it's too easy or too hard... I also have an audio processing project I intend on doing in Rust but I haven't managed to get myself to do that yet.
Also, I still want #PikaPods to have NodeBB. It might become affordable for a lot more communities that way! There's a request lodged for it in their feedback thing but there's currently no indication they plan on adding it.
Finally got #AudioBookshelf working for me, had to up the RAM on my #PikaPods instance, so not sure why that made a difference, but streaming is much better! Not to pleased with the accessibility of the Audiobookshelf mobile app, but audiobook player appears to not support streaming directly from servers unless I'm missing something?
This is something I want to try again. Now I’m back writing in a blog I kinda think about alternatives. This solution seems really good at a few levels. What do you think @maique ? Maybe I will move back to Wordpress. I don’t feel tied to any one solution and I want away from the choices like write.as and micro.blog.
@maique I'm guessing I'll be able to import my last saved #WordPress blog into pika. Yes? 🤔
Will it let me export and keep my blog if I choose to later* move to a regular* webhost?
I didn't see the size limit per app. The pika website doesn't spell out what they mean by "minimum required resources", and what it'll cost extra later if I go beyond the limit. 😕
Hey @mastohost 👋 if I use my domain with #PikaPods, it won't affect my masto.evelynyap.com, will it?
@feoh@wallabag I've got it running (only one user, but a lifetime of articles) on #PikaPods with half a core and 512mb of memory. I think you're going to be fine.
