Wondering for a while now what the status is for generic #CardDAV support in #Vivaldi browser (i.e., beyond vivaldi-net). Many requests for it in the forum, but haven't seen any statements from @Vivaldi so far.
For those wanting to setup their #migadu#email service in #GNOME#evolution together with #WebDAV/#CalDAV/#CardDAV, you can specify a server list to look-up in the Advanced Options when creating a new "Collection Account" and enter:
migadu.com;cdav.migadu.com
This will correctly resolve IMAP/SMTP/POP3 and the WebDAV paths cdav.migadu.com/addressbooks and /calendars respectively :)
@thunderbird A hard-earned lesson about #Thunderbird 115:
before upgrading to it, disable or perhaps even completely uninstall the Cardbook Add-on, if you had it installed in your previous version. It will conflict with the new DAV powers which Tbird 115 has built into it's Addressbook.
It (Cardbook's continued interference) caused serious account/password problems for me, for an entire Nextcloud account I had been using as a #CardDAV Addressbook source. Conflicting overlapping logins, it seems.
One thing I miss from the golden age of #Facebook, when pretty much everyone was on it and kept their #profile up to date, was that it was easy to find how to message someone. When I wanted to contact someone who I hadn't talk to in a while, I just used Facebook. I didn't had to worry that I had a wrong or outdated email address. I could see their profile to make sure it's the right person, and that they had been active recently so my message wouldn't get lost in the void. It was reassuring.
This system should be an open standard, so that all existing contact book apps could implement it. Kinda like an updated version of CardDAV (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CardDAV).
And ideally, all of that would be end-to-end encrypted, so that only your friends get to see your personal data. The host where you store your profile and your friends hosts should not be able to read your contact info!
Was will man denn heutzutage so als schlanke CalDAV/CardDAV Lösung haben?
Me: Well I'm finally going to do it. I'm leaving #Gmail for #Fastmail. I'm done!
#Gnome: Actually, it's impossible to add #CalDAV and #CardDAV accounts to the default Calendar and Contacts applications unless you're using Microsoft or Google (etc.). Sorry!
Is there anyway I can connect Google Workspace user directory to @thunderbird ? The #CardDAV route seems non existent. The #LDAP route seems infeasible.
