I got some interesting feedback after my :

"The book isn't intended to provide hard technical solutions (...)"

That's not my criticism, though! I expect to provide signposts and narratives about the future, not blueprints.

"The Ministry..." refuses to acknowledge / imagine any kind of agency from the . That is not technology. That's a political stance.

Refining my criticism of , I think I arrived at the core of what bothers me:

It's relatively easy to say whether science fiction is hard or soft when it comes to physical technology, but much harder when it comes to social ones.

The Ministry uses blockchain and a few other buzzword techs the same way other books use nanorobots: they magically solve complex problems. Here: social ones.

Few readers can spot that outright.

I just started reading ’s latest book and it’s surreal having my feed filled with news and social media posts from at the same time. I can’t tell what’s real anymore.

This morning, I've been remembering this -esque "trailer" the Oregon tourism commission made to encourage visitors to the state. It's very Oregon (or at least how Oregon sees itself).
I live not too far from the 50 second mark lol (heading there--Crater Lake--for a visit tomorrow).

Anyway: is the fifth state I've lived in, but I've grown very attached to it, & figured I'd share. 🤓

@sshann oh this sounds just terrible. I am so sorry - people trying to cool off in the pool reminded me of the opening chapter of .

I really hope with you that the grid doesn’t break down. And yes, worried about the unhomed too. I read somewhere that there was a rehousing scheme recently, so was hoping numbers are lower now, but not well informed
