An hour ago, I wasn't hearing Romania on 720 kHz; instead I had Iran 😮
Now, I do have Romania back on 720, but it's missing from 711 kHz; instead I have... Iran :v
630 & 963 Tunisia remain outstanding, as are 558 & 1170 from Slovenia (but not 549!). But NO Egypt, even on 864!
Bulgaria wasn't really heard throughout the evening on 576, but now it's fairly good.
A mindblowing thing is SBA Holy Quran sticking out on 873 (10kW) but down in the noise on 882 (100kW!)
North American #solareclipse monitoring in NE Poland????????
Yeah, however long a shot it is... but this very faint trace coming on & off, peaking literally for SECONDS around 1936z (I know the time in this waterfall plot is 4h off xD) on 1129.991 kHz can't lie...
Also w/ timeanddate.com day/night/#eclipse map for 1936z attached, w/ locations of WBBR & mine overlaid. NY was in slightly less than 75% totality at the time but a full one was right on the radio waves' take-off 😅
#MWDX well, it's just about all gone here in Pittsburgh. But this was a pretty nice opening. Maybe better than 2017, although my memories of that aren't quite as good as this year for obvious reasons. I don't remember getting Boston back in 2017.
#MWDX now getting a taste of New York City and Boston, nothing that I usually don't get at night, but I don't get these stations during the day. WOR, WBZ, W CBS. all coming in here in Pittsburgh PA.
#MWDX not sure if this is solar eclipse related, but barely starting to receive signals on 1690. 1600 and 1590 seem a bit more enhanced just starting here.
#MWDX The 2017 solar eclipse brought some interesting radio on the AM band here for about a half hour. In the middle of the day, from here in Pittsburgh, I had some of my night time usuals like KMOX, plus some stations from West Virginia and Ohio that I usually don't receive during the day. Will be watching the band for any possible openings. There were lots of reports on the bird during the 2017 eclipse.
It now requires me to log into FMLIST or MWLIST...
Not that it's a problem to me 😝 but if you just want to check what you might be hearing on a particular frequency or generate those fancy maps of a transimtter or an entire radio network's coverage, just for fun -- then it might be a hurdle.
558.0792 kHz: IRIB Radio Iran's extensive synchronuous network is no longer really that synchronuous, as one of the 22 transmitters listed for this frequency has slipped almost 80 Hz off 😝
594 kHz: this one was real quick, unexpected, and what not, as it almost escaped the usual rise in my noise floor as streetlights are turned on for the night...
Myanmar Radio 🇲🇲!
YL announcer barely heard, then some piece of mx, but IMMEDIATELY obliterated by noise! - so no chance to recognize it 😞
This was right at 1629z. Within next minute, I managed to quickly increase waterfall FFT resolution & zoom in much closer to see a carrier drop within seconds of 1630*z.
1188 kHz: Asian propagation is so good tonight that I was able to see - and hear? the Yanbian Wobbly Rumbler #jamming HLKX FEBC. The view was pretty much unobstructed by stronger IRIB Radio Payam.
Even managed to trace the Rumbler's switch-off @ 2007:03*z, and its QSY to 1205.961 - now w/out rumbling, although there's another Chinese Rumbler on 1206.0! - at *2008:51z.
Recently, a #IRCA (International Radio Club of America) group, which discusses #MWDX, has been hot about a phenomenon of Chinese #mediumwave#AMradio#jamming... or a strange defect of some 🇨🇳 MW transmitters... or both 🤔
And in Hong Kong🇭🇰, another look at 1557 kHz revealed not only a carrier accompanied by strong rumble, but even a 1kHz tone from one of the jammers! #mediumwave#mwdx#OddballCarrierOfTheDay
More "unexplainable" rumblers from China, via Masset🇨🇦 #KiwiSDR:
981
990
1044 (big Nei Menggu SFN)
1053
1098 (another RTI freq, // 1557)
1143 (against Taiwan Fishery R.?)
1152
1233
1278
1305 - this one is pretty darn wobbly
1314 - also wobbly
1458 - this one's quite noisy
1476 - another fat & wobbly one
1485?
1530
1575
And yes - some of this mess does make it towards the other direction, even to my comparably modest antenna 🙂 e.g. now:
Screenshots show Chinese rumblers on 1557, 1359, 1143, and probably the one on 1413 seen while Putler FM had a YL talking (but even Putler himself w/ his noisy background didn't go lower than 100Hz XD)
Seems like propagation is good this afternoon in NE Poland ✈️ #mediumwave#mwdx
1503 kHz: weak wobbly carrier, presumed from China 🇨🇳, seen around 1500z today here in NE Poland. I've seen the same thing - and even heard the audio - some 5-6 years back on a Tokyo area KiwiSDR, as "whisperized" instrumental music battling with JOUK... impressive it's been left out like this for so many years 🥴 #mediumwave#mwdx#OddballCarrierOfTheDay
Yo dawg, I'm spammin' Reverse Beacon Network again 🤪
These are just last 15 minutes or so of #160m traffic in #CQWW160#CQWW160CW Contest, with my (almost) 15x4.5m Conti SuperLoop beaming ~67deg, right across Asia.
As you can see, not much far into Western Europe... which is good 🙂 furthest RD8D, near naZi ruZZia's border with Mongolia and NE China 📏5684 km.
I've been skimming like this for around 2 hours so there must be more good stuff in there 😅
What did ya say again? Solar flares? What solar flares?
Time signals from presumed Japan (EDIT: or Korea! 2x KBS 1 Radio on freq), and two echoey TSs from China (presumed Xinjiang Kazakh) a few seconds later, on 963 kHz - a busy frequency here that just happened to have little else around my sunset 😜
774 kHz on my fixed SuperLoop: children's singing and a brief Japanese YL announcement are lurking from behind Iranian Islamic Call to Prayer.
No doubt it's JOUB NHK Radio 2 Akita🇯🇵
Also later @1422z, found English lesson actually comprising of a long discussion on 747 = JOIB (damn, forgot their call XDDDDD) Sapporo #mediumwave#mwdx
1080 kHz: Arab music, fairly strong, would've been better if I could improve my NE SuperLoop to null Cadena SER better. Anyway IT WASN'T THERE IN THE AFTERNOON!!! Another Israel reactivation for the #WARINGAZA? KAN MaKan? #mediumwave#mwdx
2 years ago I was fortunate to capture RRI Pro-4 Banda Aceh Interval Signal all the way from Indonesia 🇮🇩 into NE Poland on 1251 kHz. Back then, it was listed as 10kW, so this was a remarkable catch ✈️
Today I got a comment to my YouTube video of the station that they're now running at 5kW❗
Unfortunately I don't know when the power decrease took effect. Was it 5kW already when I received them in Nov 2021 or when John in Skegness🇬🇧 got them in Sep '23?
I've managed to snag the mysterious 1kHz test tone that's been mysteriously running & running for a few months on 1542 kHz AM.
Location believed to be somewhere in Taiwan 🇹🇼, which is also indicated by a fact other monitors, using KiwiSDRs in the area, noted the signal absent on Dec 25 = Constitution Day in Taiwan 🙂
Unfortunately most other Asians are remarkably anemic, even 1377 CNR1 😕 #mediumwave#mwdx#1542kHz
