I really appreciate everyone's support in retooting my initial announcement that I was looking for a job, but I am going to be taking a step back and going on #sabbatical until March 2024. I will be looking for a new job at that point.

Yesterday, when I went to bed, the thought hit me: what if I take a three-month job alternative leave. I should use my savings, because the compensation for this #leave is very small. The minimum alternative leave is 100 days in #Finland. 🤔🫶 #suomimastodon#sabbatical
So schnell kann ein halbes Jahr vergehen. Nun habe ich einiges über Rust gelernt und schaue mal, wie ich das in meinen Arbeitsalltag integrieren kann. Ich weiß nicht mehr, wo ich es gelesen hatte, aber es stimmt schon, dass man mit den Techniken aus Rust auch sein Daily Business mit anderen Programmiersprachen bereichern kann.
In Zukunft werde ich mich dann aus meiner "normalen" Freizeit hier melden und umschauen.
Was habe ich während der 6-monatigen Auszeit gelernt:
Natürlich habe ich mich mit #Rust beschäftigt. Das war mein erklärter Zweck für das #Sabbatical. Aber hat auch alles so funktioniert, wie ich es wollte? Nein, leider nicht.
Ich habe nicht nur viel über Rust gelernt und alle Stadtteilbibliotheken Stuttgarts besucht (😁), sondern auch die ein oder andere kleinere und mittlere Krise durchlebt. Ich musste für mich feststellen, dass ich eine selbstgewählte Tagesstruktur nicht ewig aufrecht erhalten kann, dass mir der direkte Austausch mit Kolleg:innen sehr gefehlt hat und dass man nach dem Urlaub nicht mehr unbedingt erholt in seine selbstorganisierte Umgebung zurückfinden wird. Letzteres ist mir mit meinem Urlaub im September so gegangen. Anschließend habe ich es nicht mehr richtig geschafft, mich zu motivieren.
Ich bin nun seit etwas mehr als einer Woche zurück in meinem Job und auch dort ist nicht alles toll, aber der zwischenmenschliche Austausch und die Kundenwünsche, von denen man seine Aufgaben ableiten kann, tun gut.
Passt auf euch auf! Wenn es euch nicht gut geht, gibt es unterschiedliche Anlaufstellen, um sich Hilfe zu holen.

#Bikepacking once taken literally: Today we pack our bikes and all our luggage for the flight on Saturday. Only two more sleeps, then it goes over the big pond to the #USA. Three months #sabbatical. This time nothing with #Java. But the #Duke will always be with us! It goes by bike from #NewYork at the Atlantic Ocean to #LosAngeles and #SanFrancisco at the Pacific Ocean. Something between 7'000 and 8'000 km with pure muscle power. I'm excited like a little kid on the eve of Christmas!

Zu den Themen Threads, SmartPointers, Lifetimes und Conversions muss ich noch einiges Lernen, damit ich es gut anwenden kann.
