For some privacy/security features: "Warden" allows you to block Trackers and Loggers on individual apps, if you have root. "TrackerControl" or "Rethink: DNS + Firewall" basically allow you to customize a Firewall and in the case of Rethink also offer a good DNS service. I basically see no ads anymore, even in other apps.
Edit: and definitely check out OSMAnd+. Theres a paid full version on the Playstore but the exact same version is for free on FDroid. I suggest the paid version to support them. Its by far the best Map+Navigation app i've used, although the public transport navigation doesnt work that well for me. In those cases i use Transportr.
Google Maps, Apple Maps, Organic Maps and OSMAnd+. Although Im very willing to admit that "best" is highly dependent on my rather specific personal preferences. Being FOSS gives OSMAnd+ a big plus (hehe), but I also have an interest in GIS, which it is quite good in, since its a rather information dense app. From the sometimes absurd categories that you can search for (e.g. "abandoned", which is great to search for Urbex targets). I also love the bonkers level of personalization you can achieve with OSMAnd+, considering that the alternatives have very little options on mobile phones.
In anything at all, perfection is finally attained not when there is no longer anything to add, but when there is no longer anything to take away, when a body has been stripped down to its nakedness.
Insofern ist es natürlich auch eine Art des Perfektionismus, gerade nur genug zu tun um alles gerade so am laufen zu halten anstatt auch nur einen Finger mehr zu rühren...
Hello new people joining the #Mastodon and #Lemmy sides of the #Fediverse! How did you find yourself here? What was the specific point that lead you to make the jump?
I have been using Mastodon for some time but I've never really used Twitter in the first place, so it wasn't surprising to see that I didn't really use Mastodon either. For the simple reason of wanting to try around a bit more I decided to join #Kbin and so far I'm quite happy!
An "organizational structure" so to say for Kbin sounds great, with a predictable layer of transparency and flow of resources instead of one person carrying everything and having very little time to manage and communicate (not a criticism, its simply the way it currently is).
As far as we can tell Ernest is currently focusing on pull requests to solve some of the more urgent issues and add features for comparatively little work (i.e. checking and approving merges instead of writing code himself). This generally fits into the Roadmap he has laid out last month (although iirc he wanted to change it a bit).
Ultimately its Ernests call and we can only see behind the curtain wherever a piece of communication peaks out, so we dont really know a lot about the work going on in the background (again, not a criticism, simply the way it is right now). I agree that a general structure for facilitating sustainable (i.e. without burn outs or bus factors) development and organization of Kbin sounds good and hope it is in the works.
I was initially introduced to Mastodon a few years ago by a close friend and picked up on it quickly given the benefits of not having to deal with advertising, or being shown what a mega-corporation thought I should have to see through algorithms. I have since found a great instance over on cupoftea.social that promotes quality...
@nixCraft Im going to cheat and name two. First would be Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 which I mostly used to attempt to build a jurassic park with mascots. Never really worked, but I had fun. Second is Brave Dwarves, which I used to play with my brother.
I don't really understand the NSFW / 18+ distinction you are making, could you elaborate on it? Maybe with an example?
Although I do agree that two tags would be helpful, NSFW being porn and similar stuff and the other maybe more related to (for example) rather disgusting medical stories that people like to post. It doesn't make that much sense having those under one tag.
Basically about degree of embarrassment you'd feel from someone seeing it. Girls in bikinis (2D or 3D) aren't a huge issue, but it's maybe not what should show up on your computer at work. Basically most female character designs in mobile games lol. Having this tagged makes it easier to use something like kbin at work since you can switch between the filters between work and elsewhere.
Fun idea, but imo its so fine grained that people will either not use it at all or constantly misuse it (depending on personal interpretation), making it more of a hindrance than help.

Sustainability of kbin
First of all I would like to suggest to @ernest to take a day or two break from working on kbin and in general to not overwork himself....
Aaand... We have our first spam/bot!
Don't really know what the right way to call it is, but someone/some bot is spamming this post everywhere, even in the comments sections:...
OC How did you end up finding kbin? Did you migrate here from Reddit?

I'm not sure if this is the right place for a discussion, or if I should rather open an issue at Codeberg....
