Also tremendously impatient for this evening's grocery order - I did the order while hungry & just after watching a show which happened to feature some delicious looking paninis, so I ordered a bunch of pumpkin panini rolls 😁

I’ve been reading about “stimming in autism”, which up until now was very confusing to me mostly because that’s the one point kept being repeated in the community being a must for an autistic individual. And I can’t relate to that at all.

Then I came across something that describes the purpose of ‘stimming’ is to deal with extra energy. Then it kinda hit me, I’ve never had the need to stim because I’m a low energy person in general.

I get overwhelmed with activities when they involve raising heart rates (yes, THAT too). I like quiet things, dead of night etc. Once at a time in my life, I was pretty sure I could hear flow of electricity.

So my question to the community: do you think stimming is a must for autistic people? Do you relate to it? Anyone know of any low energy stimming that gets overlooked?

Thanks! Much love!! 💕 @actuallyautistic

@farah
I don't think I really stim unless I'm really distressed or in pain, which I think is also reasonably common for allistic people in any case?
I don't know whether lack of energy is a factor in that, my chronic illness means I feel best when I'm staying as still as possible, any kind of movement/exertion is first evaluated to see if the benefit is worth the energy outlay, so I don't really do subconscious movements much I think.

I've never really gotten the whole "omg clean sheets" thing - probably mostly because changing the sheets is like running a goddamn marathon with POTS so not a rewarding experience - but I just half-killed myself putting a brand new sheet on the bed which was WELL overdue, and.. I kinda get it just at the moment. It's so pretty and clean 😅

It's very frustrating not being able to spend this whole power cut doing housework 🫤
I'm finding it much harder to decide how to pace, because my usual routine of chores and rest (which is lying down watching tv) is out the window. Doing cross stitch is kind of rest but also not really.
