Also tremendously impatient for this evening's grocery order - I did the order while hungry & just after watching a show which happened to feature some delicious looking paninis, so I ordered a bunch of pumpkin panini rolls 😁

I’ve been reading about “stimming in autism”, which up until now was very confusing to me mostly because that’s the one point kept being repeated in the community being a must for an autistic individual. And I can’t relate to that at all.

Then I came across something that describes the purpose of ‘stimming’ is to deal with extra energy. Then it kinda hit me, I’ve never had the need to stim because I’m a low energy person in general.

I get overwhelmed with activities when they involve raising heart rates (yes, THAT too). I like quiet things, dead of night etc. Once at a time in my life, I was pretty sure I could hear flow of electricity.

So my question to the community: do you think stimming is a must for autistic people? Do you relate to it? Anyone know of any low energy stimming that gets overlooked?

Thanks! Much love!! 💕 @actuallyautistic

@farah
I don't think I really stim unless I'm really distressed or in pain, which I think is also reasonably common for allistic people in any case?
I don't know whether lack of energy is a factor in that, my chronic illness means I feel best when I'm staying as still as possible, any kind of movement/exertion is first evaluated to see if the benefit is worth the energy outlay, so I don't really do subconscious movements much I think.

I've never really gotten the whole "omg clean sheets" thing - probably mostly because changing the sheets is like running a goddamn marathon with POTS so not a rewarding experience - but I just half-killed myself putting a brand new sheet on the bed which was WELL overdue, and.. I kinda get it just at the moment. It's so pretty and clean 😅

It's very frustrating not being able to spend this whole power cut doing housework 🫤
I'm finding it much harder to decide how to pace, because my usual routine of chores and rest (which is lying down watching tv) is out the window. Doing cross stitch is kind of rest but also not really.

If I wanted to get a little camera specifically so I could take better photos of my garden birds - so optical zoom being a big requirement I guess - does anyone have knowledgeable thoughts on whether this would be a decent choice?
I don't think I want the learning curve or the cost of a DSLR 🤷🏼‍♀️

It is goddamn hilarious to me seeing people say they feel wary of people in masks/respirators in case they have covid and went out anyway.
Buddy.
Stop and think about how the people in the masks feel about you and all the other maskless people spreading covid all around them 🙃

Yay! I finally got around to checking my cross stitch against the pattern to find my mistake.. and there wasn't one! I just got confused because I kept running out of thread and stopping in weird places, so where I thought I had finished a colour block I actually hadn't 🙃

It's frankly painful the way that we can all be marveling at the natural world simultaneously, and yet somehow we've built a society which seems destined to destroy it, and we've given up or lost the power to stop it happening?

Anyway, I don't suppose anyone has any tips adjusting to using a CPAP machine? My husband's first night was a complete failure - I didn't hear any snoring for once, but he (and his fitness watch thingy) said he had his worst sleep ever 🥲

Hundreds of patients died after catching COVID in hospital, and experts say their deaths were preventable

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-05-06/hundreds-died-catching-covid-victoria-hospitals-testing-masking/103784896

> Thousands of patients caught COVID in Victorian public hospitals in the past two years and hundreds died, fuelling concerns that health services aren't taking strong enough precautions against airborne viruses.

Kinda curious that it's hundreds in the headline and thousands in the article text, isn't it? 🤔

I want a lifestyle & gardening show featuring only disabled people 🥺
Can you imagine all the clever tips you would learn?? Instead of clueless ableds constantly being chipper and saying daft things like "anyone can do this!"
(Yes I am watching Gardening Australia again 😅)

Another woman murdered locally 💔
It never fucking ends 🤬

Apparently in Australia so far this year, a woman has been murdered by a man known to her an average of every 4 days 💔

Found a precious little treasure while de-pooping the garden 🥰
Also realised I want a hashtag for garden photos that aren't necessarily flowery, so I'm going with

A small white empty eggshell sitting amongst dead grass and leaves. It's missing a huge chunk and a tiny conical snail can be seen on the inside surface.

If you criticize me for going out to empty places sitting by open windows with my CO2 monitor showing safe air during the lowest point of infections in eight months, I'm happy to block you. The vast majority of people are simply completely ignoring COVID-19. I'm not. But I think people have a right to make informed decisions to minimize risk while living life. If you accept the risk of driving in a car, don't bash others for making informed decisions to enjoy life. Life is balance.

3TomatoesShort,
@3TomatoesShort@disabled.social avatar

@Methylcobalamin
Exactly that, yes - in a well ventilated space, the CO2 will be lower due to a good inflow of outdoors air, while in poorly ventilated & crowded spaces the CO2 climbs very quickly. It can actually be quite startling when you start taking a CO2 monitor around to different places.

Doing an AppleTV free trial, what should we watch in addition to Ted Lasso?
(Between my husband & myself we watch most genres so any recommendations welcome!)

Anyone know of non-HP fandoms that have similar fic tropes to things like potions accidents, the whole mind-reading thing, & just the interesting options provided by magic generally?
I miss some of my favourite fics & tropes from the olden days, but I don't want to go back there :/

I feel like I ask this on social media every 6 months or so, but I've never found anything that scratches the same itches 😭
Although Star Wars comes closest, with the whole force bond situation.

3TomatoesShort,

@MsHearthWitch
Ooh I haven't, I'll check it out, thanks!!
There are tons of books where I like the actual canon content infinitely more, but just.. there's not the same breadth of options in the fanfic world, so many different characters etc.
