👋 For those interested, the brilliant and lovely @cameronmoll did a talk at the 2024 Front-End Design Conference. Wasn't there, but looks like it was wonderful. Here's a link to a PDF of his slides. Worth checking out. He also created a colophon, which is an idea I might steal…
@chris@mako Speaking of Apple and privacy — you may have seen this from yesterday:
“Apple makes it really hard for users to completely stop it from collecting data"
> Apple's default apps are collecting user data even if users try disabling them, research from Aalto University claims, with it being an almost impossible task to properly accomplish.
@chris@mako Have to say, Apple's handing of default apps always annoys me. For any third-party apps, permissions need to be granted for notifications and other settings.
@chris@mako Yeah... with them I still think about the whole "you're not the product" line they have. I do think there's some measure of truth to that versus Facebook or Google.
That said, we're affording them A LOT of trust and man, there'd be hell to pay if that got broken. My hope is that they recognize that and hold it in VERY HIGH REGARD as a business.
I never envisioned becoming a keyboard nerd, but somewhere along the way I started down the path. To wit, I didn't need to buy the NuPhy Air75 v2 low profile mechanical keyboard, but OMG I'm so glad I did.
Is buttery-goodness a phrase applied to keyboards? If not, I take credit. Such a delight to use. Works brilliantly for the Mac. Can't rave enough.
@AnthonyBaker I was extended until I dug into the mechanical keyboards. I got my apple extended out last year and just couldn't use it anymore. It took up too much real estate and I now appreciate the mechanical keys so much more.
Great piece of reporting from Johnathan Katz on the WHOPPING LIE that Katie Britt told on national television in her SOTU rebuttal. And folks, he did it following some basic critical thinking and web searching. Dear god I hope he wasn’t the only one who found this out or dug into the claim. And holy hell — that this was even uttered on TV shows the depths of rubbish the GOP is willing to throw on air. #sotu
Apple Podcasts downloads the most recent FIVE episodes of a podcast when you subscribe. I subscribe to a lot, and this ends up chewing through a huge amount of my phones HD. I now set to none every time. Wonder how many “downloads” shows get stem from this default…
@greg Heck, I don’t know yet. But didn’t even know that was a thing. Definitely a serif though. Like Bookerly, just getting bored of it and do not like any of the Kindle’s other options.
> Fairly Trained said in a blog post that it has already certified nine generative AI companies that work in image, music, and voice generation. These include Beatoven.ai, Boomy, BRIA.ai, Endel, LifeScore, Rightsify, SOMMS.AI, Soundful, and Tuney.
Can we please just create a non-carbon, clean and low-cost perpetual energy source that we can make available for all humans and call it a day?
"Mark Zuckerberg’s new goal is creating artificial general intelligence”
> OpenAI's stated mission is to create the artificial general intelligence, or AGI. Demis Hassabis, the leader of Google's AI efforts, has the same goal. Now, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is entering the race.
