I love genuine questions and people putting in the effort to love and understand each other better. If you come at me just wanting to argue I’m going to troll you back. FAFO.

Apytele,

Flip an egg or pancake without breaking it.

Apytele,

My middle school music teacher was mean so I didn’t take her class again. There were a lot of authority figures who felt I needed to toughen up in one way or another and I gave up on a lot of things because of that mindset.

Apytele,

War. Coal mine. Oil rig. None of which should even exist IMO, but that’s a different debate. I’ll respect somebody wanting that lifestyle even if idgi at all but there’s a buuuunch of people out there wanting a partner to do all the trad shit while they do fuckall trad shit. And the modern stuff they’re doing is always all the worst and least fun. They’re exactly the kind of people that would die of a diet-related illness despite never having looked at a spice rack.

I’m getting pretty sick of people blaming the jobs themselves. I firmly believe that’s another one of capitalism’s psyops to convince us we’re lazy and selfish for not wanting to put up with its bullshit anymore.

I actually love my job itself, even the butt-wiping. Tbh the butt wiping has actually been one of the better parts of my job, because I get to help someone who is uncomfortable and unable to do anything about it get comfortable again. From what I can tell most people are actually like that if you make sure they have what they need. I find most people will try to help others as long as they’re taken care of enough themselves, capitalism just refuses to allow that. If we help each other, we don’t have to pay to be helped.

It’s the capitalist influence that’s consistently rotting the heart and soul out of everything, not the actual work of connecting with and caring for other humans. I think the propaganda has gotten good at making us forget that.

I mean transport / delivery of goods in general is a solid job that’s pretty essential to modern society. Especially super essential items like food and medicine. I’d much rather a child look up to a delivery driver or trucker than a CEO. The capitalist branding for the wage-slave version of the job is a bit much. Its just another example of capitalism sucking all the intrinsic and extrinsic value out of decent humans just trying to do a job that benefits others.

Apytele,

Meanwhile if I look like one of those great danes that thinks it’s a chihuahua in the lap of any man under 6 foot and few have considered that unthreatening.

Reminds me of that guy that was trapped at the bottom of the sea for like 48 hours and when they realized he was alive the divers operator or whatever they call the guy on the radio from the base ship was just immediately like “Keep him calm! Keep him calm!” I’m just imagining the bitter irony of surviving 48h under the fucking ocean only to drown while excitedly panicking when help arrives (fortunately they did keep him calm and he did make it, just with some pretty horrific PTSD iirc).

Apytele,

Tbh I have no idea what I was trying to type now.

Apytele,

Checklists suck, especially to go through repeatedly but they realistically save more lives than any of the more dramatic heroics.

Apytele,

A lot of good other answers. Do you have anyone in your life you trust to help you communicate with the doctors and other medical people if you get too overwhelmed or if they have trouble understanding you? Because you should call that person if you have them to let them know how you’ve been feeling and that you’d like some help / support at the doctor’s.

Apytele,

“The beatings will continue until morale improves.”

Apytele,

Excellent. Please continue to keep us posted on this situation as it develops.

Apytele,

I like thegirlwiththedogs ’ wisdom,“As always, we disarm our opponent before battle.”

Apytele,

It’s actually a very good thing! It’s an extension of creativity, which has been one of humanities’ greatest assets throughout history. Being able to think up a wide number of possibilities of ways to respond to the world is super helpful, but you do have to have a good sense of which ones are bad, and very few are nearly this obvious.

As a nurse I can do pretty much everything a chiropractor can that’s not horribly unsafe and unproven. I can advise on diet, exercise and herbal supplements, I can massage muscles and help someone stretch through range of motion. I even know how to use a fucking TENS/EMS device, and I could probably get certified in acupuncture if I wanted. The only thing I don’t do that a chiropractor does is sever spines and snap necks, and if that’s all they managed to learn with all that extra school they can keep it, lol.

TLDR; all the “doctor” shit they do is actually nurse shit and everything else is assault and battery.

Apytele,

This is fascinating; thank you for sharing.

Libre Office stuck in full screen/no menu mode

I have ribbon controls, but I don’t have the menu above that. Also, Libre Office (I use Writer mostly but the launcher also) has made itself full screen, and that interferes with the panel (which I keep on the left side). I have had to resort to Alt-F4 to quit. How can I get menus back? Will I be able to get Libre-office to...

Apytele,

You can’t just F11 out of fullscreen?

Not sure how math/logic factors into this for you but the impossibility of proving a negative seems to apply here. It’s one of the basic bits of logic I teach patients (at least when they ask about reality testing, which is rare). I tell them it’s pretty near impossible to prove something doesn’t exist or didn’t happen, and that I find the best thing is to focus on what was most likely. It’s very rare I don’t find a very mundane reason for pretty much everything, and the few things I can’t there’s pretty much nothing I can do about anyway.

I feel like it’s actually less developed areas that are getting hit the hardest by this kind of thing. The fossil-fuel ridden cities can just burn more to crank the AC up. It’s a perverse irony and digging the hole deeper, but if this was fundamentally the kind of problem where the people doing it faced the most direct consequences, this situation would never have devolved this far.

Apytele,

I’m definitely praying the most for the Palestinians right this second but I’ve been saying since this began that I’m also really not looking forward to antisemitism becoming cool again.

Apytele,

…I have only the vaguest understanding of why this is important or how much, other than I really don’t want him to not face consequences or god forbid wind up in office again. Like are they actually going to send him to prison? If they do send him to prison, are the alt-right insane enough to try to spring him? Does this make it easier or harder to discipline politicians in the future? What is the weirdness I keep hearing about various judges being on or not on his side or is that a different thing?

Honestly more than keep me constantly anxious the 24h news cycle mostly just keeps me constantly disoriented. I can never keep any of these stories straight or remember which ones do affect each other.
