As part of my prep for my upcoming Dungeon Crawl Classics campaign, I’ve been compiling and indexing pre-DCC RPG setting info from the 3.5 and 4e modules.

With DCC RPG, Goodman Games doesn’t really limit themselves to previous edition setting material (there’s no real “canon”), and the current setting is simultaneously weirder and less trad fantasy than before, but there are many shared place and deity names. The old setting has some cool stuff, like ancient naga and sphinx empires.

OSR folks:

Judge's Guild decided the right way to post about the death of Jennell Jaquays was by deadnaming her throughout in their Facebook post.

This got them a bunch of yelling-at, during which they doubled down that this was somehow neutral practice, and then it vanished, possibly deleted, possibly reported into oblivion.

So, like, if they weren't already on your asshole list, mark 'em on down.

@Tim_Eagon @LeviKornelsen Both Jennell Jaquays and Joseph Goodman (Goodman Games, who has done reprints of Judge’s Guild and Jaquays’ work) made a joint statement condemning Bledsaw Jr’s bigotry when it came to light. Maybe the deadnaming is one final swipe.

I used to enjoy Grim Dark settings and games until I realized that the world was grim and dark.

I find myself turning to the wondrous and magical, to folktales and the wyrd for escapism.

Life is bitter and harsh, the nights are full of shadows, but sometimes the world has ways of showing us something beautiful, something magical and magnificent, if we’re paying attention.

Started playing "Six Ages: Lights going out" (AKA Kings of Dragon Pass 3), and it is pretty amazing.

While KoDP and Six Ages have this "rise and grow" feeling to them, Lights Going Out nails the "Apocalypse is coming" feeling pretty well!

Two years in, my clan has been on the brink of starvation the whole time. Heroquest rituals now have positives and negative effects on them, instead of being an all or nothing affair.

For my Baldur’s Gate 3 character, I recreated (resurrected?) a dwarf cleric that was killed by a Shambling Mound in the very first session of my friend’s Dungeon of the Mad Mage campaign. Moradin was not yet done with Bridget Trueforge!

A GM I play with uses Midjourney to generate NPC portraits for our Cyberpunk RED game. Which is fine, fits the aesthetic.

But now he’s started using ChatGPT to come up with worldbuilding and adventure ideas, and that seems like delegating some of the most fun parts of GMing to software. No thanks.
