Today was the first day of in , so I went to the local Metro (Beechwood Ave), and after wandering the store, was absolutely flummoxed to discover that nearly everything we regularly purchase was less expensive at our local Loblaws (Rideau St).

I didn't see that coming. After thinking about it a bit, I suspect it might have to do with the location of the Metro (Beechwood/Rockliffe is well-to-do).

Will have to look at a map and see where the next closest one is. 🤔

Auxonic,

@WTL that metro is pretty rough. Green’s on MacArthur just east of loblaws is my go to local grocery

If public servants have to go back to the office 3 days a week... Do they finally get back what they had before 2020?

  • an assigned cubicle?
  • a locker to put their personal items?
  • two monitors when needed?
  • on-site keyboards and mice?
  • a bedbug and bat free office? (haha joke, that never happened, even before 2020)

Auxonic,
@Auxonic@mastodon.social avatar

@stephanie we definitely have a building with a bat problem

Auxonic,
@Auxonic@mastodon.social avatar

@stephanie work keyboards so bad I bought one. Hauling an entire cubicle to and from the office where I have to wear noise cancelling headphones. Maybe the idiots in charge should have their offices taken away

Fuck these two shits into the sun. Conservatives stripping the city and province bare for private profit and lining their own pockets.

@grivettcarnac nah. That was Fleury (my old idiot councillor) and the liberals got there first. Suckcliffe was always going to come down the with right. Center and left were never going to play with his grifts hard enough

    @grivettcarnac my mom always swore off fancy office clothes and then found herself in a job paying like 8 times her old paralegal salary and suddenly (comfortable) dressy office clothes seemed perfectly reasonable. Still no heels 👠

    @ShaunOttawa @stephanie spent the day planning “12 top priorities” for our IT team of 6 and plan on spending a fortune on consultants to badly fill the gaps at 2-3x the cost of the people supervising them. I loath it and blame all governments of the last 40 years for the mess.

    Auxonic,
    @Auxonic@mastodon.social avatar

    @ShaunOttawa of that’s real and they plan on breaking all the “work arrangements” the director and up should be 100% in the office.

    The is still the NCC. Putting mulch down for tulip festival because it’s pretty but leaving the muddy and flooded path as is. The ruts the covered with mulch are only there because so many pickup trucks drive through the park. Stay dry and

    I notice they basically stopped the surveys on RTO/hybrid… I guess we have to wait until the big survey to tell management where to shove it. Not that they’ll actually face consequences for cratering job satisfaction and lower productivity https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/back-to-the-grind-1.7188498

    huh...next door neighbor sold their house a few weeks ago...today hydro and electricians are disconnecting the solar panels and their separate service line...I guess they're taking them with them? Seems odd.

    @johnefrancis @dairpo yeah. Seems possible. MicroFIT isn’t quite dead. The remaining contracts will expire 2029 through 2037… new owners might have just wanted it gone so they didn’t have to deal with it.. or maybe hydro ottawa didn’t want to transfer the other line..

    We're going to shop for small trees to put in our backyard today!! (We decided to buy them as older saplings so that they would do their privacy job faster than little sprouts) Hopefully we find nice ones!

    @grivettcarnac thé government of Ontario doesn’t care about safety. I’m not even all that worried how people drive (badly) on highways except that urban Ottawa gets threaded like their on/off ramp

    Auxonic,
    @Auxonic@mastodon.social avatar

    @grivettcarnac the impetus is that people want to drive faster because they want to. The fact that it lowers efficiency and is dangerous… is not relevant to our government.

    Auxonic,
    @Auxonic@mastodon.social avatar

    @grivettcarnac @shawngettler the précédent is the other way I think. The province has been shown liable for maintenance of roads when it contributed to deaths… why wouldn’t you sue them if someone got hurt.

    This whole plan to sell off federal lands seems poorly thought out. Previous governments sold off everything not nailed down often meaning renting back building we used to own.. so we’re selling either garbage or needed buildings and waves hands housing https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/selling-federal-office-buildings-should-move-twice-as-fast-says-procurement-official-1.7182722

    Auxonic,
    @Auxonic@mastodon.social avatar

    @WTL agreed. All the talk by politicians so far is limited to magically hoping private companies build housing when the feds could just do it.
