Another day, another sign of societal collapse.

This particular experience is either the result of capitalist reluctance to pay for mechanical maintenance or capitalist refusal to treat workers like human beings.

Atrocious, egregious, disgusting. Horrible privacy implications.

"To make it work, [Microsoft] Recall records everything users do on their PC, including activities in apps, communications in live meetings, and websites visited for research."

Obviously, Linux won't do this to you. It has no reason to. Good reason to switch.

Hopefully there will be a way to disable in-OS.

@arcadetoken “At first glance, the Recall feature seems like it may set the stage for potential gross violations of user privacy. Despite reassurances from Microsoft, that impression persists for second and third glances as well.”

Looks like it at least requires hardware to opt-in:

"To use Recall, users will need to purchase one of the new "Copilot Plus PCs" powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite chips, which include the necessary neural processing unit (NPU).”

My partner and I bought a car together this week.

He’d kept his working for 15 years but it didn't have air conditioning, and between my sensory issues and the planet's ever hotter summers, this meant I was rarely willing to go anywhere.

I don't want to sit around alone waiting for the end.

After so many years without my own car, I can't help feeling like I've bought into Mad Max. But I want to get to places where I can help people and build community, so I hope it is at least Furiosa.

Cassandra,
@Cassandra@autistics.life avatar

It is indeed manual transmission.

Boys I was friends with taught me how to drive one decades ago. I was so angry how many of them were taught versus how few of my female friends, so I was determined to learn.

I bought a cheap used car I thought was sexy - a dark green two-door Chevy Cavalier - and a friend drove from the dealership to a parking lot for my first lesson.

I stalled on a lot of steep hills.

But I also drove a lot of people to places they needed to go.

On today's , it's been a long road getting from TNG to here! Captain Archer heads out on Earth's first Uber mission but when the Enterprise's passenger is abducted they may not earn a 5 star rating.

Really great ep, @GreatestTrek! The theme song sounds so professional, especially the harmonies. I love that B&A have already identified Archer as a nepo baby and Trip as Dubya, I'm glad to hear them calling out Berman and Braga for grossness towards female characters / cast, and I'm very much looking forward to hearing the Jeffrey Combs slashfic.

Mood: seeing a video of a bear righting an orange traffic cone and, instead of being amused by how human the action is, being depressed by what our presence has done to wildlife and the barren landscape in which the bear walks.

Almanacs don't seem as popular as they were hundreds of years ago. 🤔

Cassandra,

@JeremyMallin Presumably the same reason as encyclopedias: we get that information on our phones now.

I haven't left my apartment for long periods of time in weeks.

My cats refused to eat while I was gone, and eating is Nikita's favorite thing. As soon as I got home, she ate all her food.

Dinah was yowling a really sad sounding cry when I got back. 😢

I've been alone for a few days and it's interesting to see that it doesn't matter if I'm alone and not having to socialize - I still got dissociated and was just very confused home alone not knowing if I'm an actual person who is alive. I know this happens but for some reason I had told myself that if I just get to be alone some time I will feel better. Nope. Felt bad and was alone with the feelings.

Cassandra,
@Cassandra@autistics.life avatar

@exme How you've described that experience is very relatable. How are your next few days looking?

Cassandra,
@Cassandra@autistics.life avatar

@exme I'm glad he's home. He sounds caring. [heart]

How many years can I still say that I'm "recently" diagnosed?

Cassandra,
@Cassandra@autistics.life avatar

@JeremyMallin I don't know the answer, but perhaps a certain percentage of your life? So if you're diagnosed older, after so much of your life not knowing, I think the newness of it can last longer in objective terms.

Battery powered appliances such as vacuum cleaner, lawn mowers etc. really is a significant help in getting things done with limited spoons.

It's both not all the time having to fight with a cord which makes using them better, but also that it's much faster to get started and put the appliance away again which makes it more feasible to do a bit of cleaning etc. when I have a bit of spare energy.

Cassandra,
@Cassandra@autistics.life avatar

@samantha Agreed. I had one with a cord that I dreaded using, but now I have a battery operated one that I sometimes even do spot-cleans with!

Having established that dandelion seed heads are definitely NOT known as DANDELION CLOCKS by everyone I have a follow on question...

What DO you know them as?

Chatting to people already I have had FLUFFS (Lithuania) and WINDY PUFFS (Canada) both of which are SUPERB.

Are there any others? Will there be enough to make a World Map of Dandelion Names?! 😃

Places, names & any other trivia welcome!

I think I need to live in a commune as a sort of jack of all trades.

Honestly, I don’t think I have the mental makeup, skills, and talents (let alone interest) to “succeed” in our capitalist society.

I’m a tinkerer who enjoys working with wood as much as I enjoy working on computers, researching accounting (or real, anything) as much as I enjoy reading about science*.

Maybe I should start Communauty.

*Oh, but I hate gardening.

Oh lawd, I've got to bite the bullet and start rewatching Star Trek Enterprise, now Greatest Generation podcast has finished Voyager and is about to start on Trek's red-headed stepchild. I mean I don't have to watch, but the pod is better if you've seen the episode they're discussing. The things I do for @GreatestTrek

Cassandra,

@beecycling

I bailed on watching it a couple times before, but I think I'll have more luck this time because of the pod. :)

@beecycling I really liked the pod today. More societal critique.

Funny. A character in this show who was declared by others to be disgruntled, argued that she used to be "perfectly gruntled".

Now I'm wondering if "gruntled" is a word that was ever commonly used.

@schoudaan @JeremyMallin Yeah, my partner's guess was “unpeeled" must mean lids closed.

Adventures in trying to get my Strattera.

Insurance won’t pay for the new dosage, so put in a request last night to have my psych send a prescription to the pharmacy down the street. Except I think he start his vacation already and he doesn’t come back until end of June.

So now I called the pharmacy to have them call my insurance company’s pharmacy to get it transferred. Now I wait. She said it can take 24 hours to get it from them sometimes.

Meanwhile I’m struggling hardcore trying to work😭

@schoudaan Same. It's messed up that we're discouraged from using these basic tools just because other people don't need them.
