@nixCraft I think foss software is getting much better. Some proprietary software (I'm looking at you Adobe and Microsoft) gets bloated, filled with spyware. And then we have subscriptions...

@neme They should organize the menus in one place and add more overall customization options instead. Seems they just randomly jump in different directions ignoring their core users.

@dan @Adda Brave search is getting better and better. I'm personally using combination of DDG, Google. But atm I'm testing kagi.com. I want to write post on it, once I try the 100 free queries.

@isVeryLoud @hash0772 I had similar experience. I was able to resolve the slowness by enabling swap on the vps. What was worst is that over time Bing and Google API changed and it stopped working, took quite long troubleshooting. Occasionaly I would hit some kind of rate limit and got nothing from Google. It was too much hassle and not worth the vps cost.

@isVeryLoud It was for me, I monitored the server and each query would bump up the memory quite a bit. But that sucker had only 512 MB I think. It could've been some issue that's already fixed with newer Searx versions.

I'm concerned about the quality of Google search results. Lately, I'm seeing Reddit links dominate the top spots, even when they're not the most relevant sources. Is there a reason for this? DuckDuckGo is giving out better results. What is going on? 🤔 Btw, if you connected to the vpn and not logged into the Reddit, you get lovely fake message from Reddit. The official Reddit app is crap too. What do you think?

@nixCraft Interesting, I can't absolutely no reddit results, unless I specifically type "reddit" in the search query. Instead I get product suggestions for literally everything.
