Today's post is the story of a stunning artistic and acoustical triumph from Caracas, Venezuela. It is also a cautionary tale of what happens when community-based funding dries up due to government ideology and political unrest. Read and learn.

One of the best movies in recent times, based upon one of the best sci-fi novellas of recent times, soundtracked by the saddest song in recent times. What an awesome movie Arrival turned out to be. Enjoy!

Hardcore punk music with a positive message. All that and more in today's post about the seminal band Minor Threat and the Straight Edge movement that they began with the song of the same name...a movement that is still promoted by bands such as Rancid and Idles today. Enjoy :)

Just finished reading The Bad-Ass Librarians Of Timbuktu by journalist Joshua Hammer. What an excellent recounting of the desperate race to save hundreds of thousands of priceless manuscripts that showcased the rich legacy of academic scholarship in Mali and Northern Africa over the centuries at a time when Al Qaeda jihadists sought to destroy them and take over the country in the early 2010s.

Is there something about Mastodon and the Fediverse that you need help with?

Reply to me or send me a DM and I'll try to help if I can, or put you in touch with someone else who can help.

Don't worry if a question seems silly or obvious! The idea of this account is to especially help new people.

@feditips Thanks for the opportunity to ask a question. I am not the sharpest IT knife in the drawer so……here goes. I want to link my Mstdn.ca account with my Wordpress blog and back again. On my profile I have created a link to my Wordpress blog. On Wordpress, at the bottom of my published post, I have a Mastodon button that allows me to export my post onto my Mstdn.ca account. Is there anything else needed to qualify for verification or are further tweaks required? Thanks.

@neurovagrant Thanks for the write up, Ian. Your advice is clear and easy to follow. Your article is written with much pragmatism and compassion. A lot of us have older, aging parents who are not so tech savvy so this is very timely and most appreciated. Well done.👍

There are many troubling things going on in our world at the moment. It is easy to forget about some of the good. For those who need something lighter to think about for a brief while, here you go. This is me beside the famous "Make Way For Ducklings" sculptures during a visit to the Boston Commons. As a teacher and a parent, I have always believed in the power of stories. We did many "touristy" things while in Boston but this moment was just for me.
