I've never really used a trackball. I mean, I've played with them in kiosks and whatnot, but I never sat down to actually use a computer with a trackball.

Does anybody here use a trackball in a non-retro-computing environment? What are your impressions?

I'm happy with my regular mouse, just curious.

@hisham_hm for literally decades I'm using thumb Trackballs; they're both amazingly precise and I've much less issues over time with my wrist than using computer mice.

    @larsmb @LeslieMaggie @TRyanGregory ... and being ridiculed by family + peers to protect oneself from their supposed "simple cold" while happily coughing and sneezing right into your face. Then going right to mommy, daddy for lunch and next to their single remaining grandparent for coffee and cake. I'm not joking. I'm flattened, disgusted and don't even care to confront them anymore. At this point I just leave when I've got the chance.

    @LukefromDC @larsmb @LeslieMaggie @TRyanGregory same here, in the years before the pandemic a little aching in my throat grew sometimes into a bronchitis or alveolitis; I learned to increase my corticosteroid dosage right when the symptoms started. Bad after phases when I forgot weeks at a time to even take it. Last 4 years I had no cold.

    Guess who had severe bronchitis for weeks before visiting us. Their children brought something from kindergarten. It was "only" that and no swabs taken. 🙃

    @LukefromDC @larsmb @LeslieMaggie @TRyanGregory yep, but it's my partner's both siblings and parents who're acting like that. Telling us that "it's good for you" to get sick, to titulate our air washer as "monster" (given it's not pretty, I'm selecting stuff for technical data), pulling it's plug from the electrical outlet. It's hard to talk against this level of ignorance. And recently I'm being removed from their company and can only trust my partner that he keeps our HEPA filters operational.

    Es gibt so Tage da frage ich mich was in den letzten Jahren eigentlich passiert ist, dass Situationen gefühlt viel schneller eskalieren als früher und deutlich aggressiver geführt werden?

    Es scheint fast so als hätte Corona unbemerkt die emotionale Impulskontrolle kaputt gemacht und die Menschen in leicht reizbare Zombies verwandelt.

    @leah Impulsivität und Reizbarkeit gehören zu COVID-19 dazu, ebenso werden bei einigen infizierten Personen heftige Wahnvorstellungen induziert, die keinerlei psychiatrisch relevante Episoden in ihrer Geschichte aufweisen.

    Faszinierend wie meine "GVS Elipse Source Control P3 filtering half-mask" die Leute next to me nachdenklich / nervös / solidarischer (?) macht und diese entweder fliehen oder sich selbst eine / aufsetzen. Seriously wenn ich bekannt mit einem respiratorischen Pathogen infiziert (und möglicherweise infektiös) wäre würde ich hier garantiert nicht sitzen.

    Btw. was empfiehlt das Fediverse, wenn ich jetzt doch positiv sein sollte? Auf die Konferenz würde ich dann nicht mehr gehen. Im Hotel bleiben ist keine dauerhafte Option. Wohnen tue ich in einer anderen Stadt, die ich via DB Fernverkehr erreichen muss. Autofahren würde ich in dem Zustand nicht wollen. Zuhause wartet mein Partner, den ich keinesfalls anstecken möchte. Basically everywhere I could go I would run into people. At some point I have to go home.

    @nuintari @hyc it instead adds a lot of complexity which in itself is an issue. It's easier by far to reason about end to end communications relations than those which have 1+n stateful (!) address translation layers in between.

    @batichi it always needs to sit in the same place for me to pick it up in the morning and remain in the same pocket during the day (every day). Otherwise I'm panicking when it's not there because I've misplaced it and cannot immediately find it. Sometimes I'm searching for hours for stuff that I simply misplaced just a bit.
