You ever hear of mass layoffs at valve? You ever here of disgruntled employees? If them having incomes too low? Of any scandals?
The guy built and runs a private company. Doesn’t exploit his workers. Doesn’t try to influence government. Isn’t ripping anyone off. Promotes and invests in open source software. Gave permission for anyone who wants to use the os used on steam deck on any other handheld device, and here you are being pissed at him because his company is worth a lot.
How hot Thai food is, is somewhat overblown. It’s the hottest regularly served food in the world, but it’s not hotter than some people enjoy. Their “spicy” comes from red and green chili’s, ginger, peppercorn, and garlic. By far, the hottest of that group is the red chili’s, but those are around 200,000 scoville. I can eat those and not break a sweat.
The one chip challenge was a lot hotter than any Thai food. Hotter than any of the other challenge or worlds hottest “x” that I’ve tried (friends and stuff gift me these types of things a lot). I’ve bought a lot of sauces that are hotter than it, and it still didn’t have me wishing for something to drink. My mouth just doesn’t react to capsaicin as much as the average persons.
Gas powered is still vastly superior for things like leafblowers. A good gas one can last 15 years and take a total of $40 in maintenance parts for that entire time, all while blowing harder. High end battery powered ones will last 45 minutes and need a couple hundred dollars worth of replacement batteries every few years. My stihl from 1997 still works like it’s new.
Sure, if you need less power and want to deal with the extension cord, and where you’re blowing is within 100 feet of an outlet. Doesn’t work well for gutters or large properties or houses with only 1 or 2 outlets outside.
Huh. I can’t think of 297 other uses for a leaf blower, so I guess your 99% claim might be a bit…overblown.
Article doesn’t really specify which Rolls Royce it’s referring to, and most people don’t know there’s two completely different companies called Rolls Royce, but im assuming this deal is being done with Rolls Royce Holdings; a major aeroplane engine /aerospace/defense company.

If you can learn your job well enough after a week or so to do it satisfactorily, it’s an unskilled job.
There are definitely unskilled jobs. When I was a cart attendant at Target, I was in an unskilled job. If someone with less than two weeks training were left to do one of the jobs I have now, people would literally die.
No one in the US will dive into major production of such things without a more guaranteed long term tariff. Not something that may go away within 5 years time. Also, there isn’t a snowballs chance in hell the US will be a world leader in solar production. We might dominate the US market.
To go further, all those 3v button batteries are essentially the same. You can buy any one of similar thickness to replace one like that, that you will have to re-solder in place. It’s definitely a 20mm across one, so the first numbers will be 20. For thickness I’m guessing by the looks of it, it’s either 3.5mm thick or 4.0mm thick, so last two numbers will be 35 or 40. So you want either a 2035 or a 2040 as a replacement.
They’re all 3v. The only difference in button style batteries thickness is how much capacity they hold. If it physically fits in a device and you can create the connection for the top and bottom, it will work. I’ve used a little piece of metal or wire to bridge a gap to make a thinner battery replace what was supposed to be a thicker one if I didn’t have the right size on hand. Just means it will die a bit sooner.
Maybe. It’s a thin looking clip and not soldered to the board very strong. Prolly be OK if op can remove the battery without the clip breaking from the board. I’m guessing it will come off when op tries to pry those spot welds off the battery.
In a completely capitalist market, American manufacturers would be paying Americans less money to make the cars, and if they couldn’t find people, they’d move the manufacturing out of the country. Why would they keep a factory here in the US if they could pay Mexicans to build them and ship them to the US with no tariffs (fucked up lobbying and a lousy government has sort of made this example happen, actually)? US auto worker are paid around $18 to $35 an hour. Chinese auto workers average (converted to US currency) $2 to $3.50 an hour.
So you tell me. Do you really want to go pure capitalism, no holds barred, and try to compete with a country paying their people $3 an hour without moving your own manufacturing out of the US? Do you know how many jobs in the US exist only because there’s tariffs in place? Do you know that just like Honda, Toyota and other foreign car manufacturers have done, China can avoid most of the tariffs by building their vehicles in the US, instead of shipping all of them in? Getting rid of tariffs would lower the wages of nearly every job you could get in the US. When millions of jobs leave the US, it makes it real easy for a capitalist to start paying less to desperate people, and start thinking that what you’re being currently paid is too much.

I’m a really bad person to ask that. I’ve never bought a car (and I’m kind of old) newer than 10 years old and with one exception, I’ve never spent over $500 in a year on any maintenance or repairs. About 6 of those vehicles were sports cars. Most cars I buy I’ll keep a few years and then sale for 0 loss. I’m fully aware I’m the exception to the rule, but not enough to offset the EV cost. Older used EVs will be worth so much less than other cars. People will quickly learn that buying an old EV means they’ll have to tack on an extra $15k for a battery.
Most are not six or $7k. In fact very few are. Just in this thread is a person who had to spend $9k to replace the battery on their 2017 Leaf. A subcompact with a meager 100 mile range, if it isn’t too cold outside.
