Cowbee,

Christo-fascists openly revealing that they are genuinely terrible people held together with duct tape and faith in a genocidal God will never cease to be both hilarious and terrifying.

Cowbee,

If conservatives knew the concept of solidarity, they’d be leftists.

Cowbee,

There’s nuance. Obviously, vote for the liberal over the fascist, it’s not even close. However, the fascists are absolutely represented in government, while there’s no leftist candidates to speak of. Leftists have to plug their nose and vote liberal, while fascists gleefully vote republican.

Voting is entirely for loss prevention, because ultimately it absolutely impacts minority groups and people who stand to lose a great deal by a republican victory. However, leftists will not be able to move America to the left by voting.

That’s why grassroots movements and building up of parallel structures are so important for leftism, it cannot work within the confines of a 2 party Capitalist state, and must be built from the bottom up.

Cowbee,

There’s nuance, because leftists saying voting isn’t going to change anything meaningfully as far as moving towards the left is still true.

Cowbee,

Accelerationism works both ways, I suppose, but there legitimately are fascists in the republican party.

Cowbee,

Same reason Linux is popular on Lemmy. Lemmy is essentially an explicitly leftist community that appeals to people nerdy and techy enough to leave Reddit and join a smaller platform. Linux is a FOSS, ie leftist techy OS. Star Trek is leftist Sci-Fi.

Nerds, tech, and leftism all congregate on Lemmy.

South Korea Expects Its Already-World’s-Lowest Fertility Rate to Keep Falling (time.com)

The latest forecast by Statistics Korea puts the population in 2072 at 36.2 million, a 30% decline from the current 51.7 million, even though the fertility rate may recover a bit to 0.68 in 2026. The population is expected to fall every year starting in 2025.

Cowbee,

There’s also a massive and rising anti-feminist incel subculture, which the current President Yoon took power from. Women in South Korea don’t trust men in South Korea as much.

Insane work culture, huge wealth inequality, and rising anti-women movements all hurt birth rates.

Cowbee,

When has Clarence Thomas ever done the right thing? When do people think he will ever act properly under pressure?

Cowbee,

Leaving Reddit was one of the best things I’ve done for my phone addiction. Lemmy isn’t nearly as addictive, and the lack of a profit motive to fuck things up and encourage mass clicking helps control the content.

Cowbee,

You have to intentionally level up, you know that right? It’s not like you auto-level, you can beat the game at level 1.

Cowbee,

Starfield frustrates me, because in many ways its a major step in the right direction. It has much better roleplaying mechanics than Skyrim or Fallout 4, but at the same time the lore is half-baked and the skill system is fairly weak. It has great potential, but a lot of it feels toned down and less “real” because of it. Space exploration has a lot of potential as well, but setting every objective so far apart on planets ruins exploration by filling it with monotonous procgen.

That’s why I’m fairly confident that once properly patched, and mods/DLCs are in full swing, it will probably be remembered very fondly despite the release state. It’ll pull a Cyberpunk.

Cowbee,

Mint is my first distro! Love it as a nice simple intro to Linux.

Cowbee,

I prefer social media not based on addiction. Lemmy has been much better for my lifestyle, than my reddit addiction.

Cowbee,

It was founded by a Communist, and decentralization appeals to leftists. The non-Communist lemmy is Reddit, basically, or making your own instance or finding an anti-Communist instance.

Cowbee,

This is obviously a leftist meme making fun of liberal and conservative fighting. It’s from the perspective of someone to the left of liberals, not between liberals and conservatives.

Cowbee,

That’s incorrect.

Socialism is Worker Ownership of the Means of Production. There sre many, many forms, such as Anarcho-Syndicalism, Marxism-Leninism, Democratic Socialism, Market Socialism, Libertarian Socialism, Anarcho-Communism, Council Communism, Left Communism, and more.

Communism is a more specific form of Socialism, by which you have achieved a Stateless, Classless, moneyless society. Many Communist ideologies are transitional towards Communism, such as the USSR’s Marxism-Leninism or China’s Dengism and Maoism.

Whether by reform or Revolution, the form doesn’t change.

Cowbee,

Restructuring society around principles of Mutual Aid and other forms of Cooperative systems. Participatory Economics, for example, is a promising idea.

The chief philosophy is a rejection of all hierarchy, but not a rejection of order or society.
