Two stories run concurrently & move along at a brisk pace; Burt & his team having to balance the demands of MI5/MI6 with their normal policing activities to uncover the truth.
An easy writing style makes for an enjoyable read with unexpected twists that kept me engaged & wanting to know what happened next. A brilliant place to start this series if you haven’t come across DCI Burt & his team before. Highly recommended. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Amaka receives a frantic phone call from her friend, Funke, who asks for her urgent help. Why does Funke need help & is she in danger? How will Amaka negotiate her way through the twisting plot of money laundering, corruption & the ever-present influence of mega churches?
An easy writing style which transported me to the heat & intrigue of Nigeria. Highly recommended. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
@pnwpetey@bookstodon I wouldn’t have even picked it up if I hadn’t seen him at Capital Crime this year. He spoke so eloquently about his writing & was such a nice bloke, I had to give it a go. Antony Dunford has written some Africa based books too, but a completely different perspective/vibe to this one.
A brilliant, convoluted plan to steal the Crown Jewels with the help of an obliging inside man.
I really enjoyed this book. A pacy read which had so many threads I wasn’t sure how they would all pull together but then Mr Archer is a master storyteller so I needn’t have worried. There were some nice little nods to his early books & birthplace too - IYKYK. Thoroughly recommended. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book is the start of the new DS Tomek Bowen series & what a great read it was. Our lead character is not a particularly happy bunny & much of this is of his own making but he also has a significant backstory. He isn’t the usual angst ridden policeman.
An easy writing style made me read until silly o’clock in the morning; I’ve already started book 2 & I know book 3 is on the horizon. So what are you waiting for? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My August round up, yes it is a few days late but I had a busy weekend!
Still trying to be good to myself particularly as I was poorly sick for a good 10 days, yet I managed 16 🤷🏼♀️ & some of the usual added bits too. This month will definitely be less as I’m on holiday soon & will NOT be reviewing whilst I’m away ☀️
I have read many of this author’s books & this one is a psychological thriller of the highest order.
Not a pacy read which is probably just as well, you need to catch your breath as you reach that ending! Fantastic & more like this please but let my heart rate settle first. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I have read this author’s work before & this didn’t feel like his usual fayre. Not that there was anything wrong with it, just different.
A slow burner with beautiful descriptions of Cornwall - the characters, landscape, myths & traditions. I enjoyed reading it but I’m still not 100% sure of what I read. Intimate or claustrophobic? Read it & decide for yourself ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Be careful what you wish for; the grass is not always greener; pride comes before a fall….All of these phrases & more can be applied to this fabulous family drama. Some of the characters really resonated with me, perhaps that’s why I felt so invested in this book.
I didn’t feel as though I’d been reading very long & only just got to grips with everyone’s storyline when I’d finished it. More please. 5⭐️

I was lucky enough to be sent this by the publishers as part of their #NotAtHarrogate crime box. This is the follow up to Sixteen Horses & again features forensic veterinarian Cooper Allen but can easily be read as a standalone.
The story is dark, disturbing & with unexpected twists as Cooper doggedly follows her instincts to solve the mystery ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The first in the Malabar House series & features Inspector Persis Wadia. She is the first woman inspector in the new Indian police force. She has had to fight for her rightful place in a male dominated environment & a society which is not ready to accept a woman in authority.
An easy writing style which made this a compelling read, drawing on a historical time in the fledgling independent India ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love this author’s work, so I was looking forward to reading this book which is the start of the new DI Nikki Ross series.
I loved Nikki & I can’t wait to see how her character develops……..Lastly, Anouk. When I was small, I always wanted a Bernese Mountain Dog & now I’ll have to live vicariously through Nikki. Oh well, cheaper & no fur balls!
An easy read & I can’t wait for book two ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
