The market for people who NEED printers is shrinking. Last concert I went to I had the QR code ticket in my phone, I havent printed map directions in at least 15 years and I literally cannot remember the last item I needed to print at home.

But they also cant say “Oh well, we had a good 30 year run with home printers” they have to keep making more than last year, so they have to get increasingly predatory.

Apple “Ok yeah we’re gonna keep your data and mine it. But just us” is a whole lot better than “Lol, your shits for sale” which is Google.

I mean its not an absolutely terrible middleground IF EXECUTED PROPERLY.

If I had a job that could be done remotely but they want us in the office for a few days here and there unless my commute was under an hour each way Id be cool with coming in, working, going and grabbing some food with my coworkers, head back to the on campus FREE hotel have an early night and do my second day with no commute the next morning. It doesnt sound that bad provided that were talking like 1 overnight a fortnight max.

Its one of those things thats purely in the execution. They could absolutely nail the idea where people look forward to being asked to come into the office.

But big companies dont like dollars going out for difficult to quantify returns, they will always try to screw down the spend and ratchet up the measurable returns.

So they fuck it up.

Unlikely, but expect to see more language in sales contracts that “if absolutely any of the software is fucked with in absolutely any way that wasnt done by us the vehicles warranty is absolutely null and void. We also reserve the right to refuse to provide any and all parts and services to any vehicle found to have had its software modified outside of factory parameters.” And you best believe they will keep a list of vins and wont care if it was the previous owner.

Bricking it would be a legal minefield for them, they wouldnt dare. But making literally anything to do with servicing, updates and repairs such a colossal ball ache that its easier and cheaper to just pay for the heated seats…

I did speak a little broadly, they couldnt deny you the warranty on the wheel bearings or purely mechanical parts but they dont need to prove that the jailbreaking is the cause of literally anything electrical going to shit, they just need to say “That item is controlled by software that has been modified outside of manufacturers specifications, we are refusing to honor the warranty on this item”

Same with servicing “As this vehicle has been modified outside of our recommended parameters we cannot guarantee our repairs and as such we recommend the customer seek an alternative mechanical workshop for servicing and repairs”

Oh sure, you could fight it and win, you might join a class action and get $8 in 3 years time. Or… just dont jailbreak their product and make your life hell. I absolutely disagree with this subscription and paywall bullshit, but I do not underestimate the tomfuckery that big companies will pull to fuck customers.

What is a good hobby for a depressed person?

So i still have depression and im constantly bored, i feel like a loser who cant do anything right. I want to let my creativeness out, make something i can share with the world or family, but im probably dreaming too big. I cant stand being depressed and bored, it stinks, everyone tells me to work out but i lack the motivation...

Vintage games on GOG are pretty cheap or you could also go down the Abandonware rabbit hole. (I played both Freelancer and Mechcommander recently) Theres a good book called 1001 videogames to play before you die or something like that which could be a great reference if you want to explore retro games.

Youtube could be great, it could be a terrible idea. Youtube commenters are a bunch of fucking savages. Twitch is also an option but my understanding is you need a pretty good pc for streaming or video editing.

Was “A ping pong table and enough free time in my schedule to actually use it for half an hour on a quiet day without the area manager coming in and demanding that we get back to work” too long?

Ill stay at an average paying job with a great culture, over a shitty culture and more money. But only to a point.

My experience there is that someone has to spearhead the initiative to use it. Show management that its a positive thing and if they dont jump on board, shove it back into the corner and say “we tried”.

We had one at a place I used to work at and we had a $5 friday lunch. We all worked a few extra minutes into lunchtime to cover the hour that one guy spent cooking. The only real “sacrifice” that had to be made was someone had to go grab the supplies on thrsday afternoon. In the end the bosses gave the “chef” paid time to shoot off, get the supplies and cook. They also agreed to cover the gas for the bbq.

Doesnt sound like much but $5 for a can of coke and a couple of cheesesteak sandwiches, some spicy sausage sandwiches, bacon and egg rolls… friday lunch was always a good time.

I think after 11 years I finally realised that I was just fed up with internet strangers. I have a few wheelhouses that I’m well informed in but every time I tried to help someone gain a deeper understanding of an issue Id get argued with or worse.

Trying to have a reasonable conversation about how to get the best deal on something only to get brigaded by people who want the world to be a socialist utopia derailing the conversation. Like yeah I agree but capitalism is the system we have and you either work the system or the system works you.

By the time they switched off RIF I was only there for the memes.

Yeah but they are leaving it in place of actual money. IF you found a LEO who wanted to fuck the tippers day up it could probably be used as grounds for an arrest because its being used in place of money. Wether a charge would stick or not would entirely depend on the judge.

Kind of like how walking around with tiny baggies full of baby powder is legal, selling them and claiming its coke isnt. If you try to pass something that looks like money off as money…

I chucked in a 256 gig and it wont recognise it as internal storage. I googled it and tried all the options but it still wont recognise it as internal storage.

If site traffic plummets thats bad for Spez, if place is a giant “fuck spez” banner and it gets reported on by tech news and legitimate financial news its also bad for spez.

If investors look at the blackout and the desperate scrambling for volunteers to mod subs, and a traffic decline AND the fact that the administration cant seem to do anything about some members turning place into a monkey shit fight at the zoo… Some of them might just realise that Reddit is a very risky investment.

People thinking Elon isnt playing some sort of long game need to ask themselves one question. “If he is just acting like a bored edgelord with too much money. What are the odds that every last decision would be detrimental to the platform?”
