DerisionConsulting,

Does basically every human with a cellphone have their phone on vibrate at all times?

DerisionConsulting,

I have met a large number of Canadians who have left the country, and they were not super well off. But no where near 1 in 10

They were mostly people who became citizens, then returned to the place they were born for one reason or another.

Sometimes it’s realizing that the grass isn’t greener, sometimes it someone “back home” gets sick, sometimes it a relationship they have in Canada goes away for one reason or another.

DerisionConsulting,

That doesn’t seem to work on Lemmy, are spoilers different on dbzer0?

On Lemmy:

DerisionConsulting,

I assume you are joking, but in case you are not, the bonesaw they are talking about is the crown prince of Saudi Arabia:

DerisionConsulting,

Walter was always awful, he just finally allowed himself to act on it.
Jessie was a generally good person acting like a bad person, Walt was a bad person acting like a good person. Their facades slowly fall away with each season.

Skyler was not perfect, but she gave her boss the money to avoid an investigation which could lead to Walt getting caught.

DerisionConsulting,

I have enjoyed my time with this game so far, and I think it’s worth it. Opinions will obviously differ

DerisionConsulting, (edited )

DEI is Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Not sure on SBI

But unless the game is late-seasons Glee levels of pandering, I assume it having some people who are not straight white men won’t feel that out of place.

DerisionConsulting,

That depends on which game, and if you trust the person who said/wrote it.

The USA is one of the options

DerisionConsulting,

Someone who is mentally unwell made this in Thai (based on the writing at the bottom), then had it badly translated into English?

DerisionConsulting,

You’re the second best character actor name Margo(t), but with Margo Martindale existing, being second is still a great achievement.

DerisionConsulting,

Service dog removed from Ontario home because it got too fat the family was neglecting it.

DerisionConsulting,

The first instance of Lemmy is lemmy.ml

The ML stands for Marxist-Leninists

DerisionConsulting,

And .af is Afghanistan, .tv is Tuvalu, and .ai is Anguilla.

But .af is used for “As fuck”, .tv is used for media, and .ai is used for sketchy startups jumping on a bandwagon after they didn’t get rich off of blockchain/crypto.

If a system’s rules are mostly for combat, and making a character mostly revolved around combat, then the reason people play it is probably for combat.

The idea of “the fruitful void” does exist, but I feel it exists more for systems that have fewer rules overall, or systems that are “loose” with all aspects, not games that have hundreds of rules in one area, and ignore the others. Games like Cities Without Number (which is am disappointed that the group Worlds Beyond Number isn’t using Worlds Without Number) have been great for getting players to think more about non-combat actions.
Choose a skill, choose an attribute, explain why those two, and roll if the GM agrees. Simple, leaves room for creativity, let’s players use their characters in interesting ways that still make sense.
Charisma and stealth because your character is “acting like they belong”? Go ahead, it makes sense. It also might have a different effect than another character trying Dexterity+Stealth.

DerisionConsulting,

Whose action the dice roll represents matters.

If this is a *WN game, or some other game with a save where a failure means death, having them role the save makes sense.
If this is just a damage roll against the player, it makes no sense for that player to be the one that rolls. It’s not their character doing the action.

I am glad you understand that this is unpopular.

I get the idea behind this, people who are negative for the sake of being negative are a blight, but there shouldn’t really be a hard-line rule. Sometimes you just find yourself in a thread of the fediverse full of awful comments, not just things you disagree with, but things that are racist/sexist/transphobic/homophobic.

I know that I’ve gone into comment sections where I’ve handed out dozens of downvotes, though I also reported most of those same comments. I wouldn’t want to have a little pop-up that says “sorry, you can’t downvote in this thread until you upvote twice as many”.

DerisionConsulting,

I still think there might be issues with people who just don’t generally upvote, but run into the same type of awful comment section.

If the goal is to discourage trolling, all they would need to do is create a community where a bot posts 100s of comments, and you just go and upvote them all. It would be easier to vote sow.

My monitor has a headphone jack in the back. Can I use it only sometimes without having to plug/unplug it?

I would occasionally like to use (wired) headphones, but 90% of the time I am fine with just hearing the audio that comes out of the crappy monitor speakers. If I plug the 3.5mm cable into the monitor’s headphone jack (even without headphones attached), then no audio will come out of the speaker anymore....

DerisionConsulting,

Most operating systems let you choose the output device of the audio.

So, you should be able to plug the headphones into the computer itself, then in software choose to have the audio go out of the HDMI when you want the monitor speaker, and line-out/headphone when you want the headphones.

Which distro are you using?

DerisionConsulting,

I would take a cat over a dog any day, as I’m not a fan of pets that are clingy or constantly seek approval. I get the appeal of a bundle of energy that just want you to love/be proud of it, but it’s not my vibe.

I would also rather scoop a box indoors than carry warm bags of feces outside, and I spend as little time as possible outdoors once it’s below -30.

DerisionConsulting,

I am not filling out the form.

The first thing that hit me is that these pages are formatted in a way that is unpleasant to read; it feels it’s a chore.

I would recommend making the pages 2 columns instead of 1. It’s a quick change that really makes a difference without needing to change the wording. The effort to payoff ratio is on par with learning to drybrush or ink a miniature.

DerisionConsulting,

Skills are a bit rough.

In creating a character, the word “skill” appears far too often:

Skills are similar to powers in that they let your character do things, they just aren’t super-powerful. Skills are determined by how smart you are. When you roll your INT, you get to use that skill(attribute?) to determine how many skills you have, and how many Positive Modifiers you get to use for the skills. The Positive Modifiers can be spread to whichever skill you think needs them.

Assuming a character rolled 16 in INT and 11 in everything else, how do skills work mechanically?
This character would get 5 skill slots, and 8 positive modifiers.

  • Are these positive modifiers applied to a specific skill, and once applied they are there forever?
  • Is there a certain maximum/minimum number that can be applied to one skill?

So you normally roll 2d10 for things (I think), but do you add anything else other than the positive modifiers?

  • like, if I took boxing as a skill, would my STR or DEX add anything?
DerisionConsulting,

As a general rule for Linux; Yes, Nvidia hates linux, and the drivers cause issues in a lot of cases.

But Pop! has specifically worded to try to deal with Nvidia, so it might be smooth sailing, depending on which card you have.
