DontNoodles,

I would like to avoid buying additional hardware if possible.

DontNoodles,

Why do I need to add my nvme to the zfs pool? That doesn’t really make sense.

If the wifi slot does support m.2 drivers (I was just looking for some confirmation/document), it’ll solve my problem. Thanks nonetheless.

DontNoodles,

I’ll definitely take this route if the wifi slot will not support the m.2 drive. Thanks for the suggestion.

DontNoodles,

I get the part that the cloning software does not care for the underlying OS. My worry is the fact that I’ll run the cloning software/command from a live USB which will not be able to detect the zfs mirror on my backup drive on its own and thus break the zfs mirror with bad consequences for the existing data. I could not find any commands to make the live USB OS discover and respect the existing zfs configuration.

DontNoodles,

The SSD is 256GB while the two HDDs are 4TB each. What kind of zfs config/array do you suggest I create from them?

DontNoodles,

Finally, a use of Tinder that I can wholeheartedly support.

DontNoodles,

I’m setting up a media PC for my TV using refurbished hardware. The biggest pain right now is controlling the interface. I got one of those cheap keyboards with trackpads but they stopped working in a month. Reading this post makes me wonder if I can reuse one of the old IR remotes lying around in my home. Generating shortcut keys and binding them might be easy but what can be done for text/voice to text input?

DontNoodles,

That sounds like a good approach. I’ll try and explore this. Thanks.

DontNoodles,

I’ll have to read up on what you mean using IR remotes to control a Pi through HDMI HEC. The computer I’m using has an DP output that I’ve used an adapter to feed to my TV HDMI. So I may not be able to use your setup. But it sounds novel and interesting so I would definitely like to learn more. Thanks.

DontNoodles,

I came across a reference to kdeconnect while reading related stuff but I really looked it up after your comment. I’m using Debian on my machine and am currently using free version of Remote Mouse which allows very limited actions without posting. Kdeconnect sounds like it could take care of that and more. I just hope it supports two person controlling the same PC.

This will be in complimentary to a physical button IR remote that I’m aiming to implement after this post. Thanks.

DontNoodles,

Yeah, I’m not wishing for two pointers either. The current setup with Remote Mouse software allows two devices to move the single pointer at the same time but since kdeconnect software allows sharing of files and notifications from phone onto the PC, I’m not sure how connecting two devices will work. Guess I’ll figure it out as I set it up.

What are the most mindblowingly creative, inventive, or otherwise otherworldly albums you know of?

One of my favorite things to do while stoned is listen to albums that are really unique, artful, and/or jam packed with soul and energy, as in that head space music just hits completely differently and it just lends to me finding a deep love and appreciation for the art of music. What’re some of your favorites?

DontNoodles,

For Hawwa and Aimina watch it on a large screen up close when you’re high.

DontNoodles,

I cannot complain about this. I grew up in a small settlement and while my parents encouraged my scientific temperament, we were too poor to travel anywhere just to see an eclipse. One of the best celestial show comes around and my town is right in the middle of 22km wide line of totality and we got 45 glorious seconds of darkness. Those 45 seconds cemented my love for space.

How should I do backups?

I have a server running Debian with 24 TB of storage. I would ideally like to back up all of it, though much of it is torrents, so only the ones with low seeders really need backed up. I know about the 321 rule but it sounds like it would be expensive. What do you do for backups? Also if anyone uses tape drives for backups I am...

DontNoodles,

I would like to replicate your setup in the future. How do you connect between the two machines, using tailscale or something like that?

DontNoodles,

May I have a large container of coffee right now?

DontNoodles,

I’ve never been into gaming, mostly due to this stress thing. The suggestions in this thread makes me want to try taking it up.

I have a jailbroken PS3 that was handed down to me few years ago and is lying unused. Can someone suggest me a simple tutorial on how to find and load games onto it. I would prefer to try the games out before I buy them. High seas are familiar to me, but what exactly am I looking for?

Thank you.

DontNoodles,

I half assed in trying to build a hydroponic system a few years ago. Looking at this video, i realise how much effort it takes. But it must be so rewarding.

DontNoodles,

The biggest challenge i faced was getting the pH and nutrient right. The pre measured hydroponics nutrients were only available online to me at a big premium over big bags of similar sounding stuff like NPK, micronutrientes at local stores that sell them for farmers. I read up as best I could, found calculators, weighed and measured doses but I failed and my dear tomato saplings wilted in hours before my eyes.

DontNoodles,

Does portainer, and docker in turn, allow taking/accessing something like point in time snapshots of containers like VM software do? They make it easy to tinker with stuff, knowing that if I mess up, I can go back to a snapshot and be good again.

DontNoodles, (edited )

I don’t have anything to offer but I have a question since I’m on a similar quest. I’m also a n00b when it comes to Docker even though I have best intentions to learn it eventually. In the coming days I want to set up a similar server for photos backup and I was hoping to go with Immich too.

I have heard that Immich occasionally provides updates that are breaking in nature. How does Tipi handle it in such circumstances?

DontNoodles,

I think it is more important that you cared for them enough to try. Most people don’t even give it a shot. In an ideal world we would have enough time to learn to play, at least for self satisfaction.

Among the few instruments I have, I feel most proud about assembling what is called Jaltarang. I’ve been able to get a full octave plus half on each side which enables me to play few tunes. I suck hard at it too but just the act of setting it up and getting it in tune is satisfying on its own.

If you are curious about how it sounds when played by someone good at it, watch this.
