My code misses Dunkin as much as I do apparently.

I’m surprised that more people don’t know not to FAFO involving Target. When a company has a lab that’s sophisticated enough where LEOs ask for assistance on unrelated investigations, that’s never a good sign.

Agreed on the careful handling. With how partisan so many issues have been in the past few years, I can see this opening the door to more significant incidents in the future. Not to go “tin-foil-hat-civil-war,” but I can see an example of Massachusetts, New York, and California doing XYZ while Texas, Georgia, and Florida have done ZYX that’ll just add fuel to the fire.

Look at the diversity of states’ positions after the overturn of Roe v Wade. It has eerily similar vibes as free and slave states did 160+ years ago. Ugh, at this point, it’s time for me to meditate and read a book or something to relax.

I mean, look at all of the conspiracy theories swirling about now.

A few articles I’ve seen in my feed show how more successful ones hire essentially VAs to respond to messages and chat for $18+ hour. It’s really quite amazing.

I only have a ZNC bouncer and a copy of the lounge running on a VPS nowadays. Mainly kept around for some ebooks, and IRC only stuff like trackers. If I tried to actually pirate, I’d blow through the VPS’s monthly bandwidth cap.

Currently in the middle of a cutover between Flickr/Dropbox/iCloud mess to Photoprism. Immich, I’ll keep in a test instance with a decent chunk of duplicate files but I’m not too keen on how it, along with others, disregards your file structure.

I was looking at that earlier and grabbing an S3 bucket or setting up MinIO does not appeal to me. I think I’m just burned out from IRL work.

Been using Real-Debrid for years now on/off without any issues. There’s plenty of telegram channels that run them as well if you look.

Lazy piracy with YouTube for me, VPN signup and burner account. Am I happy with their business practices? Nope, but they play too much cat-mouse with the blockers that I’d rather they take my ~$1.17/m and left me alone.

Keepa is an amazing tool to have for Amazon since you can see the trends and “deals”.

I use this container, favonia/cloudflare-ddns, for Cloudflare and my domain.

Popular Hardware for Self Hosters?

I dusted off my RPI4 and started tinkering with self-hosting things and it's sparked a fire. Suddenly I have 7 docker containers running and I need more RAM, more space and I want something reliable with room to grow. I like small form factors but it doesn't need to be RPI small. Any recs for your favorite hardware under $500?

NUCs are great if you can snag them on sale or for a good deal but they're (somewhat) like Apple nowadays, paying the "NUC tax" imo. You can usually find other SFF with similar or better specs for cheaper on eBay. HP Prodesk (Mini) for example you can grab some extra RAM and a cheap SSD to max it out.

What specs is yours if you don't mind me asking? I have a 10th hosting Proxmox and 11th hosting ESXi, but both at 32GB. Wondering if I should take the plunge and just upgrade them both max out at 64GB.

Exact same setup as you except a larger NVME. Makes sense, no need to sink excessive cash into it. :)

I was expecting this as the pic right off the bat but I'm just happy that it's here.

Goes against the spirit of self-hosting but for some stuff(Email, DNS, Passwords), I just SaaS it out. As much as I love my lab, nothing self-hosted in my prod environment is critical.

DunkinCoder,
@DunkinCoder@lemmy.world avatar

I'll use split-DNS for some things internally, but most things just go through NextDNS lately.

I haven't found anything software-wise (self-hosted or SaaS) that I'm satisfied with for photos. Thankfully, those are easy enough to backup and aren't used day-to-day. What have you tried, and do you like/dislike of each?

DunkinCoder,

I've even ventured back to IRC for some things. This Reddit explosion has opened all sorts of old doors for me, it's very refreshing.

I’m trying to move off of Things 3, since I tried to consolidate daily/life tasks with a different section for my lab. Yeah, that hasn’t worked out too well so far. My new job uses GitLab exclusively, so I figure that might be a good pain point to learn the ins/outs of, including issue tracking.

DunkinCoder,
@DunkinCoder@lemmy.world avatar

Kind of the way (at least for me), I still have a FB account since there are still old friends or relatives that would be impossible to reach otherwise. So it just sits there, on life-support, unless I need it.

Twitter has been slowly turning that way, and now Reddit will work the same for me, but it'll take a while.

DunkinCoder,
@DunkinCoder@lemmy.world avatar

Glad someone mentioned this already. It's a nice sandbox or test environment but nothing prod will ever run there.

Hoping these don't go the Google+ route but then again, most things from Google are canned.
