EDIT: Apparently my system can't handle USB 3.2 2x2 so the test is moot.

For those who may be in the market for external SSDsโ€ฆ

Samsung's T7 has been a favorite of internet folks for some time. The T9 came out late last year with the promise of (up to) double the read & write speeds (2,000 MB/s!). I don't need the speed, but I was curious. Bought both drives with the intention of returning one.

Wouldn't ya know that the speeds are almost indistinguishable.

T7 Shield it is.

Wanted to sit down for a listening sesh with my stereo, but my cat was sitting in my chair. No problem, She always gets up for a few treats.

She ate the treats so fast and then got back in the chair while I turned on my amp.

Emmie wins. Iโ€™ll use headphones.

Iโ€™m so fucking pissed and here to vent and ask for advice. I just got my third major bubble on my vredesteins. Besides constant bubbles from potholes the tires are great.
I need to either replace all of them with michilin cross climates or I can downsize the wheels. Only problem is tire options suck downsized. Best option is DWS 06 which are great tires but not great in the snow which is the point of the AWD car.

Dylan,
@Dylan@weird.autos avatar

@Mark @Basmitharts
Indeed I did. Love them. Though I did test them in some slush very briefly and came to the conclusion that theyโ€™re nearly unusable in the snow. Not really surprising, but my lord they were SLICK.

As the weatherโ€™s been warming up I notice that the tires get significantly more grip than I remember. I normally feel like Iโ€™m on rails, but if I push it I feel like Iโ€™m on my tip toes, in a fun kinda way. Not as quick around corners as summers, but DWS06 are definitely thrilling.

Hey yโ€™all! Jayden and I just made our first posts to our joint Masto account!

Weโ€™re using it as an outlet for some personal creativity โ€” totally just for fun.

Anyway weโ€™d love it if youโ€™d check us out at some point.

This is an interesting set of charts. What they show is how conversations tend to get more toxic the longer they are on various platforms.

Good old Usenet just started pretty toxic and stayed there.

Mastodon is not shown but this seems a good argument for its commitment to non-virality. Keeping interaction small makes them better.

@John
I was just having a conversation with Jay about vitality. We donโ€™t want to go viral, but we want to use some social media. Mastoโ€™slimited reach is reassuring to both of us.

Side note: Jay & I will soon be ramping up a joint Mastodon account to showcase some of our personal artworks. Simply for fun. Might work on that today.

I saw the in totality! It was one of the most arresting things Iโ€™ve ever seen.

There was a small crowd at the park we settled down in. As the sun faded, people began to applaud. That quickly erupted into a roar of shouts & cries of excitement as the sun transitioned to totality. Beyond special.

Iโ€™m HYPED about how my photos came out.

More thoughts and photos to come.

Actually it seems that I uploaded the photos backwards โ€” I started on the ground and ended up on the fence.

Wouldโ€™ve preferred the extra stability, but my tiny tripod was too low to accurately compose shots from the ground. Unfortunately my 13 year-old DSLR doesnโ€™t have a flip-out LCD screen, so I needed a bit more height in order to see it.

@sumo
I was just warming up... had to save Magnum for totality

A very big shoutout to the small town of Inlet, NY for providing a wonderful eclipse experience. There was a food truck, plenty of public space in a lakeside park, and most importantly... bathrooms.

My criteria for a viewing location included minimal cloud cover and surrounding natural beauty. The Adirondack region proved to be a perfect spot.

We watched the cloud forecasts for days and then made a final decision at 6:30am. We hit the road 15 mins later.

After totality had passed and the park was clearing out, we met another group who was staying behind to allow for traffic to clear. Turns out theyโ€™re from Brooklyn! We exchanged numbers and we've been swapping pics & videos from the event.

The trip "homeโ€ was just as easy as the trip to Inlet โ€” 3.5 hours on countryside highways. I had a blast until it was time for the deer to come out, then it became a bit of a white knuckle experience.

All in all, this was a killer adventure among friends.

Any clouds cleared up just in time for the main event.

The moments of totality were something I'll do my best to remember. Not only was the visual aspect nearly unbelievalbe, but I felt totally validated by everyone else's reactions.

People were applauding, yelling, crying, and cheering. Some were in silently in awe.

I snapped a few pics at different shutter speeds, then plopped down and stared at it with my mouth agape. Couldn't help but cry. Itโ€™s the most beautiful natural event I've seen.

Cloud forecasts were saying that a large system would be moving east throughout the day. Western NY was totally screwed and it could've gone either way for us.

After a quick breakfast in Old Forge, NY, we drove another 20 minutes and arrived at Inlet. Luckily we were among the first people to arrive for the event, so parking was a breeze.

Things really couldn't have gone any better for us. Jayden took a nap in the sun while Justin & I geeked out about every aspect of our photography setups.

Just felt a brief but noticeable earthquake on Long Island. Jayden and I thought the whole house rumbled.

My mom was across town and texted โ€œdid we just have an earthquake?โ€

One of Jayโ€™s friends at work (in Manhattan) just asked if she felt it too!

Also got confirmations in Jersey, Brooklyn, and Connecticut.

Pretty weird for this neck of the woods!

Saw a Chevy Lumina yesterday! My parents bought one shortly before I was born and I have some extremely vivid memories of it. Ours was dark blue with a fuzzy blue fabric interior. They sold it and upgraded to an โ€˜01 Camry in the late โ€˜00s โ€” and that ended up being the first car Iโ€™d ever drive.
